Holiday Lights Winner!!

The festive display of lights and music at the home of Jennifer and Wayne Wright, 8001 Tanager Lane, won the 2016 Eagle Nest contest.  Anyone passing through the stop at Tanager and Warbler enjoyed the interactive lights.  One can't help but smile listening to the music and seeing the light show.  Thanks for bringing us all into the holiday spirit!!    The two runners-up this year were the Pinegar home at 7814 Nightingale Ct. and the Harshbarger home at 8329 Quail Ct.  If you haven't seen these homes, take the family for a drive around Eagle Nest.  Past winners, the Schwegmans on Mallard, the Corbetts on Warbler, and the Schneiders on Teel continue to make their homes look festive.    Thanks to all who take the time to decorate their homes during the holiday season.  It certainly makes our neighborhood look warm and inviting.

So don't fight the crowds to see Santa at the mall- come to the clubhouse for fun with your neighbors.   Also ENPOA will once again sponsor a Holiday Home Decorating Contest for the Christmas season.  Have your home decorated by Sunday, Dec. 18, by 6 pm. when the judging will take place.  The winning homeowners will receive a gift card from Target.   The holiday lights make our neighborhood look so welcoming. submitted by Alice Miley

Break-ins reported on Tanager Lane

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and to call 911 for any suspicious activity after reports of two break-ins on Tanager Lane this weekend. Details: On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 26, a resident in the 8100 block of Tanager Lane said she found a man inside her car. When confronted, the middle-aged man with light facial hair ran west on Tanager. Police responded and patrolled the neighborhood. No injuries or arrests were reported. During the weekend, a home in the 8400 block of Tanager Lane was broken into, despite an active security system. Police responded and patrolled the neighborhood. No injuries or arrests were reported.  Again, call 911 if you see any suspicious activity, no matter how small or unusual. Utility begins 90-day project to replace sewer lift station near Clubhouse

As you may have noticed, Citizens Energy has begun work to replace the sewer lift station to the east of the Clubhouse. The project started August 30 and is estimated to last 90 days. The scope of work includes digging a deep trench to replace pipes, pouring new concrete and installing new mechanicals, as well work to restore the common grounds to their original state. Large pile drivers may be used to anchor equipment into the ground, creating some noticeable noise. Contractors also may have work vehicles and light supplies parked in the rear parking lot overnight during the project. The original plan called for the project to begin in the spring, but the Eagle Nest Board successfully lobbied contractors to delay the project until the end of the pool season, which ends this weekend. The project is being financed entirely by the utility – no Eagle Nest funds are being used. Residents along Warbler Way may recall a similar extensive project near Warbler Court last year. The Boar

Pool open two more weekends

Not ready for the summer swim season to end? The Eagle Nest Pool will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day the weekend of 9/10-11 and 9/17-18. There will be no specified lap swim time, but if needed, guards can put in lane ropes the first and last half hour of those four days. Be sure to thank our wonderful guard staff for a job well done this year!

New Pool hours for August, September

Now that school is back in session, demand for weekday Pool hours has declined. As a result, Pool hours of operation will be changing as the summer swim season winds down. Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, the Pool will be open 4 to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, and regular hours on the weekends. This modified schedule will be in effect through Labor Day weekend. On Labor Day, Sept. 5, the Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. After that, the Pool will be open only on weekends regular hours through Sunday, Sept. 25. All Pool rules remain in effect. We understand the change in schedule may be an inconvenience for some users, but the savings in guard payroll and maintenance fees helps keep our annual dues down. Being responsible financial stewards of neighborhood resources is always a priority for the Board. We hope everyone has enjoyed the 2016 summer swim season, and our thanks go out to Pool Manager Susan Anderson and our wonderful guard staff for keeping everyone safe and happy this sea

Annual Summer Party - Aug. 7, 1 p.m.

This is a great event for the neighborhood as we celebrate another great summer swimming season in our awesome neighborhood. Bring your good side dishes to share with your neighbors. Crime Watch meeting recap 08-02-16

Image
The year's second Eagle Nest Crime Watch meeting featured two special guest speakers, gift card drawings and a tasty desert bar Tuesday night at the Clubhouse. Richard Strickland Richard Strickland  (left), the new Neighborhood Crime Watch Coordinator for BRAG (Binford Redevelopment And Growth), introduced himself to the nearly dozen residents on hand and outlined his goals and responsibilities for his position. He shared several reminders about ways to keep our properties safe (lock vehicles, turn on exterior lights at night, etc.), including the common police adage, "If you see something unusual, say something. Call 911." Why call 911 instead of the non-emergency line? Police would rather investigate a false alarm than have to respond to a violent or destructive issue after the fact, he said. Strickland also stressed the importance of sharing unreported crime incidents and suspicious activity with Eagle Nest Crime Watch Coordinator Carolyn Goldenetz (email: gol

Jet's Pizza - July 28, Aug. 4, Aug. 11

July 28, Aug. 4, and Aug. 11 are the last three Thursdays that Jet's Pizza will sell pizzas at the clubhouse. They have pepperoni and sausage deep dish pizzas for the bargain price of $5.  Last week because of a thunderstorm, Jet's left early even though they had already sold 10 pizzas.  Previously we had planned if a thunderstorm came up that he could sell from the clubhouse entrance.  Last week this person did not have the phone numbers of board members who could open the entrance so he left early.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  If that happens again, he will have all the phone numbers needed so he should be there from 5:30-7:30.  Jet's Pizza wants to continue our relationship during Family Fun Nights so EAT UP!! submitted by Alice Miley

Crime Watch meeting August 2 with BRAG speaker, gift card drawings

Fellow Eagle Nest residents,   Join us Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse for our quarterly Crime Watch meeting, featuring BRAG Crime Watch Coordinator Richard Strickland and a brief visit by an IMPD officer to answer any questions you may have about protecting your family and your home.   While Eagle Nest continues to set the standard for safety among surrounding neighborhoods, crime knows no boundaries. That’s why the Board has invited Strickland to share BRAG tips and trends about crime prevention, best safety practices and anti-crime news about our area.   As if that weren’t enough, the ENPOA Crime Watch is providing a dessert bar and a drawing for three $25 gifts cards. You also will have a chance to connect and network with other residents interested in maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhood. Lastly, find out about a unique -- and free -- opportunity to show your Crime Watch unity.   The event coincides with National Night Out, a nationwi

Jet's Pizza - July 21

Eagle Nest's Social committee had hoped to have a food truck come to the neighborhood as we have the past few years with the Dashboard Diner.  However, the Dashboard Diner changed their policy and wouldn't come to our neighborhood unless we could guarantee $1000 profit. Other food trucks, including local restaurant, Caplinger's, also need a guarantee of $1000.   So, instead of a food truck for this Thursday, July 21, Jet's Pizza has agreed to come from 5:30-7:30.  Jet's Pizza has been wonderful to work with, so please support them since they're helping us out.  $5 for a pepperoni or sausage deep dish pizza.  We want them to keep coming for Family Fun Nights at the pool.      Our next big neighborhood event will be the annual summer party at the pool on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m.  The board will provide fried chicken and drinks, and you will supply the sides.   Make Thursday pizza night!! submitted by Alice Miley

Pool reopens at 3 p.m. today (07-20-16)

Eagle Nest residents, Thanks to the quick action of Pool Manager Susan Anderson and Barton Pool Company , our  Pool will reopen at 3 p.m. today. Our chemical treatments to address the cloudy water are working, which means our swimmers and our lifeguards can see the bottom of the pool now. The expectation is that by tomorrow we will have a completely clear pool. Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding or temporary closure this morning as we worked to rectify the problem. Enjoy the water on this hot summer day! The ENPOA Board

Pool to close part of Wednesday to chemically treat cloudy water

Fellow Eagle Nest residents, Due to a small algae bloom in our Pool, the facility will be closed Wednesday, July 20, in the morning until about 3 p.m. to give corrective chemical treatments time to work. Under the direction of our new pool company, our pool staff will be applying two treatments (overnight and in the morning) to combat the problem, as well as over-chlorinating the water to restore clarity. Despite the cloudy appearance, the water is safe to swim in, and the facility should remain open the rest of the day today. Unfortunately, algae blooms are common for outdoor pools, and the problem seems to resurface after heavy storms we usually experience this time of year. Lots of debris (seen and unseen) gets dumped into the pool (including tables and chairs vandals pitched in the water last week. Yes, we’re reviewing our security cameras), affecting the chemical balance and resulting in cloudy water. It doesn't help that we have an aging pool filtration system, either.

"It wasn't an easy decision," said Garden Club president Claudette Lane. "There were so many strong contenders; any one of them could have won." And the winners are ... First Place (right): Bob and Kathy Jackson, 8001 Bittern Lane, at the corner of Bittern and Warbler Way. The Jacksons win a $75 gift card. 4th of July celebration at Eagle Nest

Eagle Nest residents will get to begin their 4th of July holiday weekend early with our third annual Patriotic Parade for kids at 6 p.m. Kids can decorate their bikes, wagons, or strollers with red, white, and blue decorations that we will provide.   After the parade, there will be a hot dog pitch-in in the pool area.  ENPOA will provide the hotdogs along with lemonade, and residents can bring side dishes.  The weather will be perfect, and  it is a great way to visit with your neighbors and enjoy Family Fun Night at the pool!

2106 Annual Meeting election results

The Eagle Nest Board of Directors thanks all the residents who cast ballots for the 2016 Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 26. Dozens of votes by new and longtime residents from all corners of the neighborhood were recorded, and all Directors on the ballot -- Michael Jackson, Alice Miley, Scott Thien and Jason Van Meter -- were unanimously re-elected. There were no write-in candidates or petitions for special elections. The four re-elected Board Directors will serve two-year terms, volunteer posts ending in June 2018. The Board voted to delay election of new officers until the July 26 meeting. Board seats held by Judith Buddenbaum, Carolyn Goldenetz and Kim Issak will be up for re-election at the next Annual Meeting, in June 2017. The Board of Directors thanks and appreciates everyone for their support. As always, feel free to contact any Board member  with questions, suggestions or concerns. -- President Scott Thien

It's our way of thanking residents for making our neighborhood desirable by keeping homes repaired and painted and grounds maintained with neat landscaping and colorful flowers and plantings. Annual Meeting is set for 7 p.m. June 26; watch the mail for your ballot and vote!

The Board of Directors for the Eagle Nest Property Owners Association will hold the Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at the Clubhouse. All residents in good standing are welcome to attend. The meeting will begin with regular business, including monthly reports from officers, staff and committee chairs, then conclude with an election to fill four seats expiring in June held by President Scott Thien, Vice President Jason Van Meter, Director/Social Events Coordinator Alice Miley and Interim Director/Budget Committee Member Michael Jackson. All four have announced they intend to seek re-election. The Board urges residents to support their candidacy when casting votes. Why? All of the aforementioned members: Played an integral role in providing $40 credits toward annual dues two consecutive years, the result of continued successful management of our Association finances. Pool opens Memorial Day weekend, likely Saturday, so be sure to pay your dues

As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, many Eagle Nest residents probably have noticed a lot of activity around our Pool and Clubhouse lately. The spring rains have eased a bit, so the Board has been busy working to improve the grounds and facilities in anticipation of opening of our Pool for the season, likely on Saturday (weather permitting). Highlights of some of the changes you'll see: Landscaping: We installed bushes and several trees near the Playground to create a more park-like setting, as well as provide shade to the equipment once the trees mature. Picnic tables: Several picnic tables will be permanently installed near the front of the Clubhouse grounds, providing much-needed places for families to picnic or enjoy our Family Fun Nights ( click here for a schedule ). Pool repairs: Work is underway to replace the concrete coping edges and decorative tile around the entire perimeter -- the first major Pool repair in about a decade -- followed by an acid wash and refi

Board reminds residents to mow high grass, weeds to avoid city action (updated)

Now that spring is here -- and the rains that go with it -- Eagle Nest has come alive with flowers, budding trees and bushes and lots of lush green grass. It’s so refreshing to see the development looking so good -- a fine example of the pride, care and attention our neighbors give their homes and properties. This season makes it clear why our Eagle Next is so popular and the envy of surrounding neighborhoods. Unfortunately, about a dozen properties in the development have let their yards go a bit, with most meeting or exceeding the city’s height limit for grass and noxious weeds like dandelions ( Click here to read the ordinance ). If a neighbor reports you to the city, you could be responsible for hundreds of dollars in municipal mowing costs. Further, our neighborhood controlling documents (Declaration of Restrictions, 3(J)i) also state that owners shall “mow the lot at such times as may be reasonably required in order to prevent the unsightly growth of vegetation and noxio

Reminder: April 30 deadline for annual dues quickly approaching

A reminder to all Eagle Nest residents that the deadline to submit your 2016 Annual Dues of $350 is Saturday, April 30. On May 1, any unpaid lots are considered late and forfeit the $40 credit extended by the Board earlier this year. On June 1, any unpaid lots will be turned over to the Association's lawyer for collection and subject to late fees and court filing costs. We hope it won't come to that, of course. Historically, Eagle Nest residents have had an excellent history of paying on time, and that has helped avoid dues increases for nearly a decade. Only three or four lots failed to pay last year, resulting in collection proceedings and in some cases liens. At this writing about one-third of the neighborhood still show balances due. Obviously, that leaves a big chunk of change to collect by Saturday. If you haven't submitted your dues, please ensure it is postmarked by April 30, or better yet, drop it in the secure mailbox in front of the Clubhouse, 8075 Teel Way

IMPD plans April 23 open house for new Satellite Station at N. Shadeland church

As Eagle Nest residents may know, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recently opened a Satellite Station at Castleton United Methodist Church, 7101 N. Shadeland Ave. Having IMPD officers frequenting the area is a good thing, of course, because it will raise their visibility and serve as a deterrent to crime. In order to build a stronger relationship between area residents and the officers who patrol our neighborhood, IMPD plans an open house of the Satellite Station from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The family friendly event is free and open to all homeowner association members and area residents, including Eagle Nest. Highlights: -- meet and greet the men and women of IMPD in person -- snap a ''selfie" with police officers -- police cars will be on display -- games and goodie bags for kids -- child ID kits will be provided -- Area businesses are providing burger , hot dogs and beverages The event was organized in cooperation with

City of Indianapolis launches RequestIndy upgrade for reports, complaints

The City of Indianapolis last week announced the launch of upgrades to RequestIndy, a free online portal and mobile application for iOS and Android devices. RequestIndy was initially launched in 2010 and has taken more than 243,000 requests. This app allows users to report problems and place requests for city services with the Mayor’s Action Center (MAC) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   This upgrade will provide contact address validation, which will aid in creating an accurate record and allow the MAC to more efficiently provide updates to constituents. Additionally, the design scheme has been updated to reflect the City’s rebranding effort. RequestIndy features include: • Ability to request city services or report problems, excluding select requests which must be called into the Mayor’s Action Center • Ability to specify issue location via GPS, GIS map or street address • Contact address validation • Status check to track submitted issue to r

Easter Egg Hunt - a success

Despite the cool weather on March 20, a great crowd of Eagle Nest Easter Egg Hunters gathered behind the clubhouse to grab the almost 400 eggs that were scattered in the grass, trees, and bushes. A good time was had by all, and the children enjoyed opening the eggs in the clubhouse.  Hopefully they shared the candy with their parents!  Thank you to Activities Committee members Kelly Dentler, Kim Issak, and Helen Beane for their work making the annual egg hunt another Eagle Nest success. Some year, we will have the hunt with warm, sunny weather! submitted by Alice Miley

How to handle solicitors in Eagle Nest

Spring is here, and for neighborhoods like Eagle Nest that means the season for solicitors has begun. Painters, tree-removal firms, window replacement companies, roofing and construction repairers -- all will be coming out of the woodwork. Several Eagle Nest Board residents this week reported aggressive "coalition'' representatives canvasing the development collecting signatures and seeking donations, all while claiming they had city permits that allowed them to conduct business. That may be, but they worked the neighborhood well after sunset, ringing doorbells after 9 p.m., even arguing with one cul-de-sac neighbor who chastised them for the late call. And rightly so. The Board is not a substitute for the police and has no authority over solicitors, and residents are reminded to use extreme caution if your home is approached by a stranger, especially at odd hours. Residents are encouraged to follow these steps if your doorbell rings with unwanted sales pitches:

Reminder: Seek Board approval before installing fences, barns, decks, etc.

As spring approaches, so, too, does the urge to work on our homes and improve our lots. And that's a good thing -- the Eagle Nest Board certainly encourages that, because we all want to see our investments hold their value and ensure our neighborhood remains model community. However, the Board reminds all residents that you must seek advance approval for any exterior improvements, including fencing, installation of sheds, even changing the color of your house. (It's in our controlling documents, in case you wondered.) We've had an increase of fence requests recently, and in at least one instance the resident avoided a significant tear-up because the easement wasn't properly accounted for and traditional placement wasn't followed. Click the Rules and Restrictions link on the right side for more info about how to submit your plans for lot improvements. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Suspicious incident on Teel Way underscores importance of calling 911

An suspicious incident in Eagle Nest this week serves as a good reminder about the power and importance of calling 911. Immediately, without delay. About 10 p.m. Monday night (February 22), residents in 7700 block of Teel Way reported two males in black hoodies were spotted lurking around their property. The homeowners dogs began barking, and when the homeowners opened the front door and shouted, the unknown individuals took off running. The residents alerted Board and staff members, who immediately urged the homeowner to call 911. They did -- and within minutes patrol cars were at the foot of the driveway and patrolling the neighborhood. No was injured, and there were no arrests. "Not sure what they were up to,'' the homeowner texted, " but (it was) enough to rattle my cage." Understandable, but the incident underscores the importance of calling 911 first and without delay, crime experts say. Earlier this month, Gerardo Becerra, Crime Watch Coordinator f

Beer Fest III draws record crowd!

Image
Simply put, our Brew Fest III was a hit. A record turnout of about 40 people filled the Clubhouse on Saturday, Jan. 30, for a great night of food, conversation, card games, karaoke and, well, ... beer, of course. A mix of new and longtime residents from virtually every corner of the neighborhood brought nearly 20 growlers of various IPAs, pilsners, ales, among other styles, from area craft breweries, including Sunking, Upland, Books and Brew, Bier, Black Acre and Blind Owl. It was an impressive display of brews to be sure, with something for nearly every discerning palate. As the night progressed, things got a little interesting when Board member Kim Isaak broke out her karaoke machine. Several of those on hand took their turn at the mic, providing plenty of laughs as "singers" performed their take on popular songs. Our fantastic Social Committee provided a wonderful spread of munchies, including croissant sandwiches, wings, cheese and crackers, trail mix, chips and
