2017 holiday home decoration winners

Image
Once again, Eagle Nest residents have done a great job decorating for the Christmas holiday! This year's judging was difficult, but judges determined that Jennifer Pinegar's home (above) at 7814 Nightingale Ct. is this year's winner. She is the proud recipient of a $25 gift card to Target. Second place this year was awarded to Michael and Elizabeth Jones' home at 7901 Tanager Lane. Third place was Norma Leverenz's home at 8232 Osprey Court. A special shout-out goes to previous winners Brian and Brandy Schneider at 8331 Mockingbird Lane. Each year, their holiday display is even more breath-taking! Thank you to those who created the magic of the season for everyone to enjoy as they drive through our wonderful development. It was very hard judging since so many residents put so much effort in decorating. Congratulations to all! The Eagle Nest Board

Barking dogs or stray cats a nuisance? Call the Mayor’s Action Center for help

Like mature trees and well-kept yards, pets are common sight throughout our neighborhood. It’s rare for a day to go by without seeing a neighbor or two out walking or running with their pet (or stooping over to clean up after them when doo-ty calls!) Sometimes things go astray (pun intended) with the occasional wandering cat, barking or nuisance dog, or those surprise remains found on front lawns. Unfortunately, the Eagle Nest Board has no control over such matters – but the City of Indianapolis does. To file a complaint or report about animals and related issues, contact the Mayor's Action Center for help: Call: (317) 327-4MAC Online: http://maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy/ Mobile device: RequestIndy app available in the App Store or GooglePlay Store If you are having problems with a resident’s animals, the neighborly thing to do is to discuss your concerns with the resident first. Sometimes, people aren’t aware their pets are a nuisance. However, if you continue to exper

Eagle Nest Holiday Decoration Contest and Cookies with Santa!

The Holiday Season has arrived in our Eagle Nest neighborhood!  The warm weather has helped neighbors put up their Holiday Decorations.   On Dec. 17, at 6 p .m., board members will judge great decorations so make sure your lights are on.  The winner will receive a $25 gift card.  Thanks to all neighbors who make our community look warm and inviting.    Our annual Cookies with Santa will be on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 3- 4 p.m. All children of the neighborhood are welcome to decorate cookies, color holiday pictures, and most importantly, visit with Santa.  Don't wait in line at the mall for pictures with Santa.  Our event is free and fun! We could use extra help with this event, so if you would like to volunteer, get in touch with Alice Miley.

Indy.gov site: 1 leaf pickup left this year

Eagle Nest residents, One of the great things about our neighborhood is all of the beautiful trees during the fall. Unfortunately, that means a lot of falling leaves as winter nears. Several of you have contacted the Board seeking information about the city's leaf pickup schedule. Here are some fast facts from the Indy.gov website : Last leaf pickup day: Tuesday, November 28 When do bags go out to the curb?  by 7 a.m. Where to place bags for pickup: At least three feet away from your trash roll cart. How many bags will be taken? Up to 40. Is there a cost? No, leaf pickup is free during the collection period.   Where can I get more info? Check Indy.gov for more details. The Board appreciates your help in keeping street storm drains clear of debris so our drainage systems can function properly.   The Eagle Nest Board

Fellow residents, Good evening. Pool reopens partially; season winds down with modified operating schedule

The Pool is open! Our water clarity has improved significantly, but for now only the shallow end is open. The deep end and slide eventually will  open, depending on how quickly our filters and chemical treatment can recover. Our life guard staff will determine when the deep end is available for use. The Board apologizes for last weekend's one-day closure, but safety is always our first priority. A reminder that our modified late summer schedule is in place through mid-September. Although weekday access is limited, the good news is our Pool will be open for business through mid-September. That's well past the traditional closing of most area pools the day after Labor Day -- an added bonus for our residents! Check the earlier Facebook and blog posts for exact days and times. This week, the Pool is open 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Most area pools close the day after Labor Day, but our dedicated Pool staff has agreed to provide extended coverage because they

Area car break-ins a reminder to take protective steps, keep vehicles locked

Several area neighborhoods including Eagle Nest, Lantern Hills, Castleton Farms, Yorkshire and areas around Fall Creek and Lantern have reported a rash of early morning vehicle break-ins and garage intrusions in the past few weeks, according to social media. Cars parked in the street or in cul-de-sacs were broken into, and in at least two instances garage door openers and other items in clear view were taken, resulting in open garage doors overnight. Luckily, no home invasions were reported. Some of the affected residents have provided police with home surveillance video and photos, and detectives are actively investigating with the material they have collected. Anyone with any information about vehicle break-ins is asked to contact the following IMPD detectives: david.yancey@indy.gov tiffany.woods@indy.gov The Eagle Next Board reminds residents to ensure vehicles are locked if parked outside, and to keep garage door openers, loose change, book/gym bags, small electronics, etc.,

A big thank you to our residents ...

Image
It's been a busy summer so far in Eagle Nest -- and we have our wonderful, supportive residents, Social Committee and volunteer Board to thank for that. Every event has been well attended and seems to bring out more residents and new faces every time. It's fantastic to see the continuation of old traditions and the start of new ones. Thanks to everyone who attended or volunteered at: Annual Pool Party opening: Kudos go out to Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her team for opening on time Memorial Day weekend, providing excellent guard support and maintaining a top-notch facility at full schedule all summer. And thanks to the replacement of all three aging pumps and few major summer storms, we seem to have escaped the green algae plumes that have plagued our water and forced temporary closures the past two years. Watch the blog later this month for details on a modified schedule of hours as we near the end of the season. July 4 Kids Parade: O nce again, kids of all ages a

Annual Summer Party- Sunday Aug.6

Eagle Nest Annual Summer Party is Sunday, August 6, at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse.  The association will provide fried chicken and hot dogs, along with lemonade and beer for the adults.  All neighbors are asked to bring a side dish to share.  The pool staff will lead some games for the kids.    This is our annual party to celebrate summer and our pool season.  Come and chat with your neighbors and enjoy good food and drink.    This Thursday night is our last scheduled Family Fun Night at the pool with Jet's Pizza selling $5 pizzas from 5-7.  Show your appreciation to Jet's Pizza by buying a pizza tonight! submitted by Alice Miley

Tuesday, August 1: Celebrate National Night Out at 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse

National Night Out -- Tuesday, August 1 --  is a unique crime prevention event designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals to that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Eagle Nest is celebrating with dessert at the Clubhouse so you can meet your neighbors and build resident awareness. One of IMPD's North District police officers will pay a visit, too, so stop by! The event starts at 7 p.m. Questions? Want to help with our Eagle Nest Crime Watch efforts? Contact neighborhood coordinator and Board member Carolyn Goldenetz at goldenetz @gmail.com.

Missing part of your shed and yard tools? Flood washed it onto Warbler sidewalk

Image
Warbler Way and Bittern Lane residents, Are you missing part of your plastic shed and some yard equipment? These items floated down the easement drainage swale between the two streets during this week's flash flooding. It's on the sidewalk in the 7700 block of Warbler (just up the street from the 3-way stop sign). Neighbors ask that you retrieve the materials at your earliest convenience. If it goes unclaimed too long it probably will wind up in the recycling truck. Please spread the word. Thanks!

Clubhouse and Pool updates ...

Fellow Eagle Nest residents, The Board hopes everyone's summer is going well and that everyone had a great Fourth of July holiday. We wanted to pass along a few quick updates about our neighborhood amenities. Clubhouse: You might have noticed the front entrance looks a little different. The Board last week removed the failing decade-old wooden steps and installed new concrete steps -- including a handicapped accessible ramp. Once the steps have completely cured, our contractor will add rails along the ramp to complete the project. This improvement was made after continued feedback from residents, as well as the Board's goal to make our facilities more ADA compliant. Next steps include the construction of a sidewalk on the east side of the Clubhouse wheelchairs and strollers can better access the facility, although the timing of that project is still undetermined. Eventually, the primary entrance to the Pool could shift to the opening nearest the Playground, with th

Movie night postponed

Movie night was supposed to be Thursday, July 6, but because the steps to the clubhouse were just redone, we are postponing until next Thursday night, July 13, at 7 p.m.  We are showing the movie "Moana" to go along with the free snow cones from Kona Ice that will be given out to the first 50 customers from 6- 7 p.m.  Also wear your favorite Hawaiian clothes to the movie in the clubhouse. Remember that Jet's Pizza will also be here from 5-7.  Have a fun Hawaiian night!! submitted by Alice Miley

3 Board members re-elected; rules changes initiative moves forward

Image
A belated thanks to everyone who cast ballots for last month’s Annual Meeting. Nearly120 residents – one-fourth of the development – participated, the largest number of election returns in more than a decade, possibly longer. Equally as impressive, nearly 20 residents from all corners of the neighborhood attended the meeting to watch the proceedings and ask questions about the proposed rules changes. All three directors on the slate – Judith Buddenbaum, Kim Isaak and Carolyn Goldenetz – were unanimously re-elected to another two-year term. There were no write-in candidates. The new Board also voted to elect officers for the 2017-18 term: Scott Thien as President, Jason Van Meter as Vice President, and Kim Isaak as Treasurer. Four Board positions will be up for grabs in June 2018. Common questions by residents attending the meeting centered on the rules changes process and what comes next for the proposals. As previously mentioned, the Board needs 51 percent of the neighborhood (2

July 4th Parade and Celebration- June 29th

Eagle Nest continues our tradition of celebrating the 4th of July at our regular Family Fun Night on Thursday at the pool.  So, on Thursday, June 29, at 6 p.m., we will decorate bikes and wagons with patriotic   streamers and parade down Teel Way around 6:30.  Then at 7 p.m., we will have a pitch-in dinner at the pool.  ENPOA will provide hot dogs and buns, chips, and drinks.   Residents should bring a side dish.  This will be the only Thursday that Jet's Pizza will NOT be here.   Let's celebrate our country! submitted by Alice Miley

Reminder to cast your election ballot -- and vote on proposed rule changes

Fellow residents, A friendly reminder that ballots for our Annual Meeting and proposed neighborhood rules changes are due by 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25 , at the Clubhouse. Simply drop your signed ballot (with lot number) in the Clubhouse mailbox, and we'll add your vote to the dozens that already have been cast. Or, better yet, hand-deliver your ballot to the Board and stay for our meeting! It's worth noting that our proposed changes have attracted overwhelming support from those who have cast ballots so far. In fact, voter participation is higher at this point leading up to the election than it has been in recent years, so your Board obviously gotten your attention with our suggested neighborhood rules changes. Many of you were considerate enough to include hand-written comments, and none has been critical of our efforts (so far). A sampling: From the 7800 block of Teel Way: "Keep it up guys! Thanks! We care!" From the 8000 block of Tanager Lane: " This is

Jet's Pizza - Thursdays 5-7

Remember that Jet's Pizza is selling $5 cheese, pepperoni, or sausage pizzas at the clubhouse on Thursdays throughout the summer.  If it is raining during the 5-7 p.m. time period, they will sell from inside the clubhouse door.  The only night this summer that Jet's Pizza will not sell pizzas will be on Thursday, June 29, when we will have our annual Fourth of July Parade and Picnic.  The Social Committee will provide hot dogs, chips, and drinks, and we ask residents to pitch-in a dish.   The parade will begin at 6 p.m., and the picnic will follow.  Enjoy the pool and plan not to cook dinner on Thursdays! submitted by Alice Miley

Ice Cream Social- Sunday, June 4, 3-5 p.m.

Celebrate the beginning of summer and the Eagle Nest pool at the ice cream social on Sunday, June 4, from 3-5 p.m.  Social committee members will serve ice cream and toppings in the pool eating area.  The weather is looking better for the weekend, but if we are rained out, we will serve ice cream the next Sunday afternoon.  Family Fun Nights begin on Thursday, June 8, with ENPOA providing some yummy cupcakes in the pool eating area.  We'll serve the cupcakes at 7 p.m.  Thursday night will be the first night for Jet's Pizza!  Jet's will sell personal size pizzas for $5 - cheese, pepperoni, sausage- from 5- 7 p.m.  Enjoy!! Also, the weather looks great for our garage sales.  Don't forget you can take whatever doesn't sell to the van in the LN parking lot for the band's rummage sale. submitted by Alice Miley

UPDATE: Pool open for Memorial Day

UPDATE 10 p.m.: Great news -- the Eagle Nest Pool will be open for use on Memorial Day! Our newly installed pump motor is running perfectly, thanks to the quick action of Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her industry contacts. Residents should find mostly clear water, but pool use might be limited to the shallow end if our lifeguard staff can't see the bottom of the deep end. It all depends on how much storm debris falls in the pool overnight and how quickly our filtration system can recover. The Board would like to thank all residents for their patience and understanding during this unexpected service delay. A shout-out and thank you also goes out to our Pool staff for scrambling to get our nearly 40-year-old facility up and running so quickly. We look forward to seeing you at the Pool this summer. All the best to you and your families this Memorial Day. Thanks, too, to all our veterans for their service and sacrifice this holiday. The Eagle Nest Board p.s. -- Reminder: No e

Pool season is almost here -- updates on tags, rules, swim lessons, key contacts

Fellow Eagle Nest residents, Memorial Day is quickly approaching, and that means the start of our swimming season at the neighborhood Pool soon will be upon us. In preparation, following are a few related updates: Pool tags: Pool tags will be mailed the week of May 22 to all residents in good standing at that point. That means, if you've paid your dues and don't have any property violations, you are welcome to use the Pool. But you have to have a tag. (Every household will receive their requested number of tags as indicated on the dues invoices mailed earlier this year.) No entry will be permitted without a tag, so please be sure all family members have one (or guests have a guest pass). Our lifeguards will be checking all patrons and will deny access to anyone who does not produce a tag. This is Board policy. Pool rules: Please read them. They exist for everyone's safety, and like pool tags they are not optional. Remember, this is a family facility, so no alcohol,

Egg-citing! Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Clubhouse draws dozens of kids

Image
Thanks to all the kids and parents who gathered for Sunday’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Clubhouse. A record turnout of more than two dozen kids (above) scrambled for plastic eggs filled with candy spread around the playground area – a hunt that lasted barely 15 minutes! Those kids are fast! Parents had a great time, too, taking photos of their kids, many of whom were out for their first holiday egg hunts. Afterward, families fanned out around the grounds to take inventory of their loot (and sample a treat or two) and enjoy our playground facilities. Of course, the nice weather was a welcome change from last year’s wind and freezing rain/snow mix! The Board hopes everyone had a great time. (Thanks to Social Committee members Alice and Scott Miley for coordinating!) If you want to join the Social Committee or have kid-friendly/family-friendly event ideas, please contact Alice Miley at alicemiley23@gmail.com . The hunt was a part of the 2017 Eagle Nest social calendar. So far t

Fourth Annual BrewFest draws dozens of residents; Easter Egg Hunt coming next

Image
Thanks to all who made our 4th Annual Eagle Nest BrewFest a success! We had a great turnout of nearly 40 new/longtime residents from all corners of the neighborhood, all sharing great local brews (OK, and a little wine), free food, gift card giveaways, karaoke (OMG) and an appreciation for all things Eagle Nest! We had two long tables filled with growlers from more than a dozen breweries across Central Indiana ... ales, stouts, IPAs, pilsners, etc. It was especially fun to meet and talk to our newer residents and hear why they chose to live in our neighborhood, reasons longtimers can relate to: caring, quality residents, a mature neighborhood, easy access to the state's best shopping and the interstate, proximity to downtown and more. We had several guests from nearby neighborhoods who praised our event, saying they wished their associations did something similar. (Kudos to our Social Committee for that!) The goal of BrewFest was to draw more residents to our Clubhouse --

Coming soon: Your 2017 Eagle Nest dues

Belated Happy New Year from the Board of Directors! We're starting 2017 with some great news: For the sixth consecutive year, all residents in good standing will receive a one-time credit toward this year's dues, reducing the total amount due to $350. Invoices will be mailed on or about February 1, but the Board wanted to send this advance notice so residents could plan ahead accordingly. Dues are payable by May 1, 2017 . Your timely payment will ensure the Board can continue providing fun family-oriented social events and neighborhood services and amenities unmatched anywhere in the area. If you don't receive a dues letter during the first week of February, please contact Secretary/Bookkeeper Chris'e Van Meter at  enpoa_sec@att.net . The Board of Directors thanks all residents for their efforts to make our neighborhood a residential destination of choice. Wishing you all the best in 2017! Sign up for recycling

Every other week, besides our blue trash bins, many Eagle Nest residents have a blue bin with a yellow top for recycling.  Our recycling is through Republic Services and costs $21 for three months. The phone number to sign up is 317-917-7300.    These are the items that they will take - Paper Products - any paper, even with some staples, newspaper, phone books, junk mail, and magazines.  They also will recycle all cardboard, file folders, poster board, cardboard boxes, milk cartons, and frozen food boxes.   Plastics - water and soda bottles, take out containers, plastics #1&7.  Metal - aluminum beverage and food cans, and scrap metal.   Republic can not recycle aluminum foil, batteries, food waste, glass mirrors, styrofoam, aerosol cans, and plastic bags.  All plastic bags including the bags the newspapers come in should be recycled at collection sites like at Walmart or Meijer.   Those residents who recycle see how much their trash is reduced each week.  I have visited the tw
