2018 Holiday Lights Contest winners!

Image
Thanks to all our Eagle Nest residents who put up Christmas lights for the holiday season! It certainly helps brighten up our neighborhood during the dark, gray days of December. The 2018 winner of our annual Holiday Lights Contest is the home of Michael and Elizabeth Jones, 7901 Tanager (right). Their variety of decorations along with much effort really brought the holiday spirit to the street. They won second place in 2017. Our second place winner is the home of Norma Levering, 8232 Osprey Circle. Norma was our third place winner last year. Our third place winner was the home of Stuart and Amy Savka, 7832 Mallard Way.  The Savkas are relatively new to the neighborhood and have decorated their home for the seasons. All three winners will receive a gift card this year. A special shout-out goes to Hummingbird Court who had all 6 houses in the court decorated. Thanks to all residents who continue to dedicate time and effort to lighting up our neighborhood during the holiday s

Coming Dec. 16: Cookies with Santa and our Neighborhood Holiday Lights Contest

It's the holiday season, and Eagle Nest is leading the way with the Christmas spirit! Our Social Committee has organized two great events for our neighborhood this season: Our annual Cookies with Santa event is Sunday, Dec. 16, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Kids of all ages are welcome to attend this popular neighborhood tradition to decorate cookies and color Christmas pictures while awaiting Santa's arrival. This is a great opportunity to capture those last-minute holiday photos. Don't wait in line at the mall for your child to see Santa -- our event at the Clubhouse is free and much less stressful. Santa is looking forward to seeing lots of good little boys and girls (OK, and a few adults, too!) Volunteers are welcome, so if you want to help please contact Board member Alice Miley. Also, judging for our annual neighborhood Holiday Lights contest will take place on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m., so please make sure your lights are on. First, second an

Indianapolis, Lawrence announce same trick-or-treats hours but different days

Eagle Nest residents could see trick-or-treaters two nights in a row, depending on which city announcement they observe. On Monday, Lawrence Mayor Steve Collier announced the city will shift trick-or-treat hours a day earlier, to 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, to avoid a wet Wednesday forecast. However, as of late Monday, the City of Indianapolis still planned to observe trick-or-treat hours of 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. Eagle Nest residents are advised to leave their  porch lights on if they want visitors, or turn them off if they don't want to be visited. Click here for the latest trick-or-treat times in Central Indiana. IMPD will have extra patrols and enforcement in neighborhoods during these times to protect the safety of residents during Halloween festivities. If you are joining in this year’s trick-or-treating fun, please consider the following safety tips: • Wear light-colored clothing short enough to prevent tripping and add  reflective tape • Wear fire-resis

Please call or go online and report tonight's IPL power outage!

Image
FELLOW RESIDENTS -- PLEASE CALL IPL OR GO ONLINE AND REPORT OUR CURRENT POWER OUTAGE ASAP! If you're home and checking email or Facebook by cell phone you no doubt are sitting in the dark wondering when the power will come back on after today's wind storms. So is the rest of the neighborhood. You can help speed up the restoration process by reporting our neighborhood outage to IPL: Website: https://www.iplpower.com/Outages-30064771049/ Phone number: (317) 261-8111 As of 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20, only six (6) Eagle Nest properties have reported a power outage, according to IPL's website -- and yet we know our entire neighborhood is dark after nearly five hours. Please help -- go online or call IPL now. The more homes that report, the larger the number of complaints are registered and the more attention we'll get. Thank you for your assistance. The meeting also will focus on OODA Loop training -- the decision cycle of observe, orient, decide and act, developed by a military strategist. “ Empowering our Eagle Nest families with education on equipping and forming a plan of safety is the goal,” Carolyn said. “Come and learn how easy it is to take home a skill that just might save your life or that of someone you love.” The meeting is free and open to all residents. Labor Day holiday pushes Eagle Nest trash, recycling pickups to Wednesday

The following notice is from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW): DPW would like to remind Marion County residents that curbside recycling, residential and heavy trash will operate on a slide schedule in observance of Labor Day. Slide Schedule: Curbside recycling, residential and heavy trash routes will slide one day forward for the week of September 3 through 8. That means Eagle Nest pickups are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5, instead of our usual Tuesday. We will only be open weekends and Labor Day. Please note the following revised hours: Regular hours on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the first and last half hours reserved for adult swim. The first half hour and last half hour of both days are reserved for adult swim. It's worth pointing out that while most public and private pools traditionally close Labor Day, the Eagle Nest Pool will be open well into the second week of the September. Thanks go out to Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her staff for extending our season and providing one of the great benefits of living in Eagle Nest! The Eagle Nest Board

Suspicious silver vehicles at Pool underscore importance of calling 911

Dear residents, A recent incident at the Pool serves as a good reminder that if you see something suspicious – say something. Call 911. Without hesitation. The reason: two men, suspicious vehicles, conflicting stories. According to witnesses, on Friday afternoon, a man in his 20s was parked in the Clubhouse lot for an extended period of time. A resident saw the vehicle and confronted the individual, who claimed to live in the neighborhood and that he was waiting for a friend. The man later was joined by a second man in a separate car, and after rustling in their trunks the two were seen casing the front of the Clubhouse. The lifeguard staff called 911, and multiple IMPD officers quickly intercepted one of the men near Teel/82 St. The man told officers he used to live in the neighborhood -- different from what he told a resident earlier. No arrests were made, and more importantly, no one was hurt. But the incident leaves much to be explained. Unfortunately, IMPD never circled ba

Special meeting set for 6 p.m. August 28, 2018, at Clubhouse

The Board has called for a Special Meeting at 6 p.m. August 28, 2018, at the Clubhouse. The topics: election letter circulated in June, Board dynamics, avoiding conflicts of interest, missing/must-have policies and procedures.   Per Article III Section 3(C) of the Eagle Nest Bylaws, only these topics will be discussed during the Special Meeting. The regular monthly Board meeting will be held immediately afterward at 6:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse.

Check your mailbox for your 2018-19 Directory

Dear residents, Your 2018-19 Eagle Nest Directory was delivered Tuesday night and is waiting for you in your mailbox. Please take a moment ASAP and retrieve the directory so the U.S. Postal Service doesn't get irritated with us this week. If you didn't receive your directory or it was somehow damaged, please email Secretary/Bookkeeper Chris'e Van Meter at enpoa_sec@att.net and we'll get you a replacement copy. One per household, please. As always, please feel free to contact any Board member with your suggestions/comments. They volunteer to serve as your Board because they, like you, are residents who only want the best for our wonderful development and all its residents!

Jet's Pizza continues!

We have had several requests, so we've asked Jet's Pizza to continue to sell $5 pizzas on Thursday night from 5-7 at the clubhouse.  They will continue through August and more if they have the customers.  It's been a great summer at Eagle Nest!!

National Night Out - Tuesday, Aug. 7; Pickle ball time change

Eagle Nest will join the nation in the National Night Out which creates crime prevention awareness in communities.  The Crime Prevention activity will meet at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse led by board member Carolyn Goldenetz where a member of IMPD will visit during the meeting.  Desserts will be served.  Don't miss being a part of this national movement to fight against crime. Because of the Crime Prevention event, anyone interested in playing and learning pickle ball will meet at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. so participants can attend the Crime Prevention event.  See you at the tennis courts! submitted by Alice Miley

Annual Neighborhood Party - Sunday, Aug. 5, 1 p.m.

Let's celebrate our great neighborhood at our annual end of summer party on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse.  For families with kids, it is the end of summer as school is starting, but our pool will be open throughout August with reduced hours.   At the party, the board will provide fried chicken, hot dogs, lemonade, and beer for the adults.  We are asking that residents bring a side dish to complete the meal.  Come visit with your neighbors, and enjoy our pool on a hot day!

No movie, but pickle ball!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the movie night at the clubhouse set for Thursday, July 26, has been postponed.  Jet's pizza will be at the clubhouse for two more weeks, so take advantage!! Remember that the pool is open late for Family Fun Night on Thursdays. Pickle ball lessons these past two weeks have been successful!! Under the tutelage of Pam and Joe Meadors and Brett Farrell, many residents have learned the basics of this fun game on our newly refurbished tennis courts.  We will continue to meet on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. so residents can pick up games and improve their skills.  Come join us! submitted by Alice Miley

Pickle ball lessons - July 17 and 24 - 7 p.m.

If any resident wants some pointers on how to play pickle ball, come to the renovated courts on Tuesday, July 17, and/or July 24 at 7 p.m.  Long time resident and experienced pickle ball player, Pam Meadors will offer basic instruction.  There has been talk about getting a neighborhood league started maybe one or two nights a week after we all become proficient!

Our Tennis Courts are open -- refurbished, repainted and ready for play!

Image
Dear fellow residents, Good things come to those who wait, the adage goes. And that certainly was the case for our neighborhood tennis players with the opening this week of our newly repaired and repainted courts. And now both courts are marked for pickle ball -- one of the nation's fastest growing and most popular court sports! Swing by and check out the facilities, restored to the look of their glory days! The Board knows the courts' temporary closure was an inconvenience, but it was necessary to address the huge (and unsafe) cracks that have developed over the years. Our ten-year capital improvement plan actually called for a complete removal and replacement, but we simply couldn't justify the five-figure expense for an asset that, unfortunately, has seen a decline in use in recent years. The condition of the courts might have had something to do with that, of course. Thanks to the research of tennis maven and former President Harry Reibe, along with help from

Eagle Nest celebrates 4th with early party

Image
Fifteen Eagle Nest kids and their parents celebrated the 4th of July early on Family Fun Night on June 28. With decorated bicycles, strollers and wagons, these patriotic residents  paraded down Teel Way and around Goldfinch Circle and back to the Clubhouse. Afterward, more than 35 kids and adults enjoyed a hot dog dinner in the Clubhouse and out of the oppressive heat. Thanks to Sharon Reed, Helen Galvin, Brian and Brandy Schneider, and Tells Guzman for helping set up and clean up the dinner. Great community fun was had by all! Submitted by Alice Miley

The Pool is ready for swimmers again -- just in time for the weekend heat

Image
Fellow residents, After a four-day closure to correct a chemical imbalance, the Eagle Nest Pool has reopened and is back in business for the rest of the summer swim season! That's welcome news, too, given temperatures are expected to hit the 90s this weekend. We understand the closing may have been inconvenient for some, but balancing chlorine and stabilizer and other chemicals for a 200,000-gallon, 40-year-old facility such as ours can be a little tricky, especially when you have aging filtering systems and piping. And when the Marion County Health Department says it's time to close and stabilize the water, well, you don't have a choice. Sure, we could have spent a day dumping more chemicals into the water in hopes things would rebalance, but there was no guarantee that would have worked. And that would have meant an even longer closure, so we decided to drain the facility -- one of the largest, private neighborhood pools in the city, by the way -- and start from s

4th of July picnic to be in clubhouse tonight

Because of the heat, we will have our 4th of July picnic in the clubhouse after the parade.  Meet at the clubhouse at 6 p.m. to decorate your bike, trike, stroller or wagon.  We'll have a short parade, and then have our traditional 4th of July hot dog dinner in the clubhouse at 6:30.  ENPOA is providing hot dogs, chips, and drinks, but we're counting on the residents to bring side dishes and desserts.  Remember that Jet's Pizza will not be here tonight, so enjoy the community of Eagle Nest in the cool clubhouse! submitted by Alice Miley

Pool closed until further notice to correct chemical imbalance in water

Dear residents, In preparation for the upcoming summer swim season and per requirements of the Marion County Health Department, our Pool is closed until further notice to correct a chemical imbalance in the water. Instead of simply dumping more chemicals into the water in hopes things will level off, we decided to pursue the best corrective and recommended action: partially drain and refill the pool during what is expected to be inclement weather in the early part of this week. Our goal is to reopen before the hot temperatures arrive later this week, but it’s up to the Health Department when we can reopen. They will need to conduct a water quality first. In short, it’s necessary preventative maintenance to help ensure the safest swimming experience possible. Watch the blog and our Facebook page for updates on reopening. Thank you for your patience and understanding.  The Eagle Nest Board

Early Fourth of July Celebration- June 28

Eagle Nest will continue its tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July at our Thursday Family Night at the pool when the pool is open later for residents.  We will gather at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 28 , at the front of the clubhouse to decorate bikes, wagons, and strollers with patriotic streamers. We'll have a short parade down Teel Way, and then proceed to the pool area where ENPOA will provide hot dogs and buns, chips, and drinks for a 4th picnic at 6:30 p.m.   Residents are asked to provide any kind of side dish.  This will be the only Thursday this summer that Jet's Pizza will NOT be here. Come and eat some hot dogs, and celebrate our great country! submitted by Alice Miley

Board election ballots in the mail; Annual Meeting set for June 27

Fellow residents, A reminder that the Annual Meeting and Board Election is 6:30 p.m. June 27 at the Clubhouse. All residents in good standing are welcome to attend and cast ballots. Please watch the mail for your official ballot to vote for four Directors. Write-in candidates are welcome, but all nominees must be residents in good standing and present at the meeting to accept their nomination. In addition to the four current Board members seeking re-election, resident Brian Schneider has declared his candidacy, too.  Following is his bio for consideration: “My name is Brian Schneider and my wife, Brandy, and I have lived in Eagle Nest for 17 years with our two children, Mark and Sarah, ages 18 and 16. We have enjoyed participating in the many activities through the years and being able to meet other neighbors that we might not otherwise see. I also enjoy walking the neighborhood most evenings during warm months. I have worked for the City of Indianapolis and Marion County for t

Little Free Library in Eagle Nest!

Image
A new house will be erected in Eagle Nest the first weekend in June! A Free Little Library, donated by long-time resident Annette Donegan, will be set up at the Clubhouse for our whole community. There are more than 65,000 Little Free Libraries across the country with the motto - Take a book, Return a book. And now Eagle Nest is among those locations. "Being an educator, I have a passion for reading," said Annette, who taught first grade at Nora Elementary for 38 years and who has lived in Eagle Nest for 32 years. "I felt like we had a great location at the Clubhouse. Many kids don't have access to books or haven't discovered the joy of reading." After learning about the Free Libraries, Annette designed one and found a carpenter who helped her build it. Eagle Nest resident and artist Sheila Jackson painted designs on the sides. Another resident, Don Ugoletti, installed the Little Library in the area near the Clubhouse bike rack. Don and his daughter, M

A word about Pool tags, dues, tennis courts, potholes, Annual Meeting, etc.

Fellow residents, Now that the nice (and humid) spring weather is here, it's time to catch up on a few neighborhood housekeeping items as we march toward another great summer in Eagle Nest: Pool tags: They are in the mail to all residents who have paid their 2018 dues as of May 1 and are current/in good standing with the association. Be on the lookout for a business-sized envelope containing your tags and a reminder list of pool rules and upcoming social activities. If you paid your dues after the May 1 deadline, delivery of your Pool tags may be delayed because we are focusing on residents who paid on time first. Please note: All residents must present their 2018 tag upon request by our lifeguard staff in order to use the Pool. No tag? No admittance -- including the facility opening Memorial Day weekend. No exceptions. Pool rules: A copy of the rules is included with your tags. The rules exist for your safety and your fellow Pool patrons. Please observe the rules, and fol

A word about annual dues and late fees

Fellow Eagle Nest residents, Just a quick update about our annual dues, which were payable by May 1. If you have not paid yet, the full amount of $400 is now due, which includes the loss of the $25 homeowner-in-good-standing credit. If dues are not paid by June 1, the amount will increase to $450, which factors in a $50 late fee. Your account also will be turned over to the association's attorney for collection. We hope it won't come to that, of course. April emails that were sent to residents who had not paid, as well as an earlier blog post, indicated that the May 1 amount due would be $450. However, a review of the January dues letter to residents stated the amount due after May 1 was $400. Though it was the original intent of the Board to assess the $50 late fee as of May 1 (making the amount due $450), a majority of members agreed that the Board did not effectively communicate that in January and have voted to stick with the original language of the 2018 dues corre

Reminder: Due date for annual Eagle Nest dues is May 1 -- just days away!

Eagle Nest residents, A quick reminder that our annual dues of $375 are, well, due on Monday, May 1. Yes, we know its a pain, but that a huge bargain our development's amenities compared those in surrounding neighborhoods. After May 1, however, residents lose the $25 credit and will owe the full $400 amount, plus a $50 late fee. Payments need to be postmarked by Monday, April 30, or placed in the secure roadside mailbox in front of the Clubhouse, 8075 Teel Way, by midnight May 1. The mailbox will be emptied promptly at 12:01 a.m. May 1, so please plan accordingly. On June 1, any unpaid lots will be turned over to our lawyer for collection, and that adds additional penalties, lawyer processing fees and possible court costs. We hope it won't come to that, of course. For those who already have submitted your dues payments and taken advantage of the $25 credit offered by the Board, thank you for your timely payment. We appreciate your help in keeping our association operati

Eagle Nest Garage Sale!!

The Eagle Nest Garage Sale has been set for June 1 and 2 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.  We will advertise this sale along with signage.  Also, we want to encourage the preview on Thursday, May 31, after 4 p.m. for Eagle Nest residents.  So start cleaning out those closets and let's pray for good weather for this first weekend in June!

Tired of potholes in the neighborhood? Help us report them!

If you spot a pothole in Eagle Nest, please help the Board -- and your fellow residents -- by reporting it to the city via the Mayor's Action Line. The more pothole reports residents file, the better our chances of getting them filled. Filing a report is quick and easy, too. Here's the link: http://maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy Several residents have contacted the Board about the holes on Tanager Lane just inside the Hague Road entrance, as well as the cluster of holes at the intersection of Warbler Way and Tanager. Reports have been filed on those this week, so hopefully we'll see action soon. In the meantime, please use caution while driving in these areas. Thanks in advance for your help. The Eagle Nest Board

Eagle Nest Annual Meeting, Board elections set for 6:30 p.m. June 27

Fellow residents, Mark your calendars for 6:30 p.m. June 27 -- the date of the 2018 Eagle Nest Annual Meeting. Four Board seats -- held by Vice President Jason Van Meter, Directors Alice Miley and Michael Jackson, and your humble blogger -- are up for election. At least two of those members intend to run for re-election. If you are interested in running for an open seat, watch the blog in the next month or so for details on how to file your candidacy. You also can send an email to scottthien@comcast.net for more information about the volunteer positions. Board members are required to attend monthly meetings, vote on neighborhood business and participate on various committees, as assigned. Speaking of meetings, check the Event calendar 2018 for dates and times of the Board's April and May meetings, as well as another great lineup of social activities and Family Fun Nights (with weekly pizza sales)! On behalf of the Eagle Nest Board , Scott Thien, President

Easter Egg Hunt - still on!

The snow makes it impossible to do the egg hunt outside today, Sunday, March 25, at 3 p.m., but we will be creative and do it inside the clubhouse.  Bring your own basket!

Easter Egg Hunt - Sunday, March 25

Eagle Nest's annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sunday, March, 25, at 3 p.m. in the front yard of the clubhouse.   The weather is not cooperating, so if there is rain, the egg hunt will be held inside the clubhouse.  If it is just cold weather, wear your warm jacket!  Bring your own basket or container.  There will be lots of eggs, so come join the fun!

Reminder to call 911: Suspicious man photographs home on Tanager Lane

Image
A warning to residents: An unidentified man was spotted photographing or taking video of a home in the 8300 block of Tanager Lane last week. The resident was not home at the time but captured several photos of the man with a front door security camera (see attached). The resident reported that no deliveries were expected (sometimes Amazon personnel take photos of packages to document delivery), so it is not known what business the man may have been representing or why he was on this particular part of the street. As previously noted on your favorite neighborhood blog, if you see something suspicious -- anything -- call 911 immediately. The emergency number is not just to call for fire trucks, paramedics or car accidents. Police encourage residents to call 911 anytime there is suspicious activity, because they would rather prevent illegal activity instead of responding after the fact. Better safe than sorry, as the saying goes.

Easter Egg Hunt date - March 25

The Eagle Nest Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Sunday, March 25, from 3-4 p.m. in front of the Clubhouse. The date was incorrect in the Eagle Nest Directory, so be sure and mark your calendars. The Easter season begins this week so spring can't be that far away! There will be lots of eggs to find! Join us! -- Submitted by Board member Alice Miley

Crime Watch meeting 7 p.m. tonight

ENPOA’s February Crime Watch meeting of 2018 starts the year off with your self-protection in mind. About 80 percent of crime happens when we are not aware of our surroundings. Learning situational awareness and the OODA Loop (observe, orient, decide and act) helps empower you and protect your family. The OODA Loop is the process our minds cycle through by the millisecond. Understanding your own mind and a potential attacker’s can be life-saving. Join us at 7 p.m. tonight (February 6) at the Clubhouse for our meeting. Carolyn Goldenetz, ENPOA Crime Watch Coordinator, will guide ENPOA residents through exercises that promote your awareness. Any age will benefit from this training, so bring the whole family! Do you have an upcoming college student? Learning these techniques are a great way to prepare your student with safety while they are away from home. As always, refreshments will be served, and this month our focus is on families. Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets, yummy chocolate chip

5th Annual ENPOA Beer Fest - Jan. 27

Plan to celebrate with your Eagle Nest neighbors on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. at our annual Beer Fest.  This is our fifth year that we have had this successful party.   All you have to do is bring a growler of your favorite craft beer that you can share with all the partygoers.  Wine drinkers can bring their favorite bottle if preferred.   We'll have snack foods along with party games and music.  There might even be some prizes!  This is an adult only party for Eagle Nest residents.  Come join the fun, and meet some new neighbors!

About those blue garbage roll carts ...

Happy New Year, fellow Eagle Nest residents. The Board hopes everyone is off to a safe and healthy start in 2018 -- and that everyone is staying warm in these unusually cold temperatures. The good news: The Pool opens in less than five months! Hang in there! In the meantime, the Board would like to raise awareness about an ongoing neigborhoodwide issue with the blue garbage and recycling roll carts. When Republic Services switched to the automated pickup of roll carts, residents greeted the news with mixed reaction. Some welcomed the large capacity bins as an easy way to dispose of more debris, while others considered them a trashy eyesore (no pun intended). For many, it was a challenge to find adequate storage space in already full garages or other areas out of view. Unfortunately, some residents have made it a habit of storing their carts in the open -- in the driveway, on front sidewalks, or on the front corner of a garage in plain view of the development. Not just once in a whi
