2019 Holiday Lights Decorating Winners!

Image
Eagle Nest residents did not disappoint for this year's Holiday Lights Decorating Contest. The winners this year were Tom and Cindy Corbett, 8520 Warbler Way. They won several years ago, but they have added to their display. In second place was Jennifer Pinegar, 7814 Nightingale Ct.0, and third place was the home of Rhonda Heinz, 8015 Bittern Lane. These winners all received gift cards. Honorable Mention shoutouts go to last year's winners, Michael and Elizabeth Jones, 7901 Tanager Lane; Troy Gabbard, 7935 Tanager Lane; and the houses on Osprey Circle. which had a number of lighted displays. The judges also loved the flamingos at the corner of Tern Court and Teel Way! Thank you to all the Eagle Nest residents who helped brighten up the season! Submitted by Alice Miley, Social Committee

Holiday activities coming soon -- Cookies with Santa and Holiday Decorating Contest!

Image
The holiday season has arrived in Eagle Nest with two wonderful neighborhood traditions. First, our annual Cookies with Santa party will be Sunday, Dec. 15, from 3-4 p.m . in the Clubhouse. In addition to decorating yummy cookies, new activities and fun games led by neighborhood resident  Christique Wellington will join the fun time with the visit from Santa. Don't stand in line at the mall to pay for a picture with Santa; it's much less stressful and free at our own Clubhouse. Grandparents, feel free to bring your special kids, too! Don't miss the fun! Also, our annual Holiday Decorating Contest in Eagle Nest will be judged on Monday, Dec. 16 , so have all your lights and other decorations out by 6 p.m. The top three winners will receive gift cards in appreciation for your efforts. Your holiday lights surely help brighten up the gray days of December and make our neighborhood warmer and inviting. Submitted by Alice Miley

Eagle Nest blog homepage gets a makeover

You might have noticed something a little different about your favorite neighborhood blog -- a new look! It's been nearly a decade since the web-based version of the Eagle Eye went live, so with the new year coming up we figured it was a good time to freshen things up.  Don't worry, nothing was removed; all the same information is still there. It's just organized differently. In fact, we added several new links on the right of the homepage to help you stay connected.  And we hope to incorporate more neighborhood photos, so feel free to email them to scottthien@comcast.net and we'll try to get them posted. We hope you like the new look. Keep those page views coming (nearly 130,000 since 2011 -- a huge saving in stamps and paper costs!). As always, the Eagle Nest Board welcomes your comments, concerns and suggestions. Have a great rest holiday season! The Eagle Nest Board

Pool hours of operation reduced to weekends only through Labor Day

Dear Eagle Nest residents, Now that summer is winding down and school is back in session, our Pool facility has seen a significant decrease in usage during weekdays. Most days our lifeguard staff (three staffers daily) would only see one or two patrons during the entire nine-hour shift. The Board simply can’t justify spending money on salaries for unused services like that. As a result, and in keeping with past practice, effective immediately the Pool will only be open weekends and closed weekdays through Labor Day. Weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with the first and last half hours of those days reserved for adult swim. At present, the Pool is scheduled for closure for the season at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2 (Labor Day). We realize this may be an inconvenience for some residents, but the Board needs to be good stewards of our financial resources for the benefit of all. If we encounter an unusually hot weather streak and guards are av

Reminder: Eagle Nest Annual Party (with free lunch) today at Clubhouse!

Looking for lunch ideas? Come down to the Eagle Nest Annual Party at the Clubhouse, starting at 1 p.m. We’ll have free fried chicken, hot dogs, lemonade for the kids, beer for the adults, and the usual spectacular array of donated potluck salads, dips, desserts and more. Our Pool staff will coordinate pool games for the kids from 2 to 2:30 p.m., so don’t forget your suit and towel (and Pool passes!) This years-running tradition is always well attended (did we mention free lunch!), so get there early and stay late. This is a great opportunity to meet new neighbors, reconnect with longtime residents and chat with Board members. The weather is great today, so come celebrate all the goodness that is Eagle Nest! Crime Watch meeting cancelled for Aug. 6

Eagle Nest residents, Due to unexpected staffing issues, the Crime Watch/National Night Out meeting set for Tuesday, August 6, has been cancelled. We apologize for the late notice. Despite the cancellation, we hope residents will continue the spirit of National Night Out by leaving their porch lights on in solidarity of our anti-crime efforts. Launched in 1984, National Night Out began as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and alert criminals that neighborhoods like Eagle Nest are organized and fighting back. Today, National Night Out involves millions of neighbors in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. Our next Crime Watch meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, and will focus on preparing our homes for winter and any crime news that matters to our neighborhood. Please join us and learn how you can help Eagle Nest remain a safe, healthy neighborhood. If yo

Baby pool scheduled to reopen on Friday

Attention families, Good news! The Baby Pool is scheduled to reopen on Friday, July 26. The facility was closed last week because of water-quality issues. It passed our weekly sample test on Tuesday. To ensure the health and safety of our residents, please keep soiled diapers out of our pools, and report any issues to our lifeguard staff immediately. We appreciate your cooperation, as well as your patience during the weeklong closure. We hope you are enjoying our community facility. Hard to believe we only have about six weeks left to swim this season. Where has the summer gone? The Eagle Nest Board

Reminder about those blue garbage roll carts ...

Eagle Nest residents, We know life is busy, and some days there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get caught up on daily chores. But the Board has a small request we could use everyone's help with: Please store your blue garbage and recycling roll carts in the garage or out of sight from the front of the development. We've gotten a lot of feedback lately about residents who habitually store the carts in their driveways, front sidewalks or on the front corner of a garage in plain view. Aside from being an eyesore to neighbors, it's actually not permitted, per our Declarations of Restrictions (Section 5F), one of the legally binding documents that governs our development. We understand that life happens, that people go on vacation, that neighbors forget to put the carts away when you can't. We know putting the carts away may be inconvenient, especially during inclement weather, but your Board is charged with enforcing our covenants to promote resident h

Good news: The main Pool is open again! Bad news on the baby pool ...

Eagle Nest residents, The Pool is open today -- just in time for what is expected to be the hottest day of the year! Stay cool, stay safe! To ensure the health and safety of our facility, no diapered children (or adults) are permitted in the Pool at this time. We want to avoid any more accidental leaks that close the Pool for the rest of the neighborhood. Also, we know the baby pool closure comes at a bad time, but we trust you understand fecal accidents are common in that facility -- and the health and safety of our residents comes first. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We hope the county health department can authorize reopening next week. Lastly, don't forget: All patrons must have a Pool pass for admittance. Thank you for your cooperation. The Eagle Nest Board

Main Pool closed for 24 hours after fecal accident; reopening expected Saturday

Image
Eagle Nest residents, Unfortunately, the main Pool is closed for the next 24 hours so we can address a water-quality issue related to a baby diaper fecal accident. Our lifeguard staff is in the process of cleaning the facility and chemically “shocking” the water with the goal of reopening the facility first thing Saturday morning. In addition, the baby pool also is closed for a similar issue. Unfortunately, this pool requires county health department authorization to reopen, and that may not happen until next week. Watch the blog for a reopen date.   In the meantime, we kindly ask that children with diapers stay out of the main pool. This will help avoid another closure due to accidental leaks. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the health and safety of residents is our No. 1 priority, of course. Thank you. The Eagle Nest Board

Board welcomes new Director, re-election of two members at Annual Meeting

The Eagle Nest Board of Directors would like to welcome new Board member Denise Cayetano, who was elected at last month’s Annual Meeting. Cayetano, a resident in the 8000 block of Warbler Way, was a write-in candidate. Denise replaces three-term member Judith Buddenbaum, a longtime resident of Goldfinch Circle who joined the Board in 2013. Judith was instrumental supporting and approving several major neighborhood projects, including the remodeling of the Pool bathrooms, overhaul of the Pool pump room mechanicals and construction of our new Playground. We thank Judith for her many years of service (and her willingness to serve again had the Board had called on her) and wish her all the best. An Eagle Nest resident since 1997, Denise is a Canada native and graduate of Arlington High School and Aristotle College in Indianapolis. She and her husband Orlando operate a dentistry office in Broad Ripple specializing in prosthetics. The Cayetanos have two grown children. “We love Eagle N

Update on AT&T's cable installation project, where to call for yard restoration

As many of you are aware, last April AT&T began installing fiber optic cables throughout the neighborhood. Although the bulk of the installation work is done, AT&T’s restoration of yards and landscaping has been slow. Last month, WRTV (Channel 6) broadcast a report about AT&T’s work in Eagle Nest and the frustration it has caused some neighbors. Here is link to the report: https://www.theindychannel.com/news/working-for-you/indianapolis-homeowners-frustrated-with-unfinished-yard-repairs-from-at-ts-new-fiber-lines The Board has been in touch with AT&T construction field coordinator Joel Glentzer, who provided the following instructions to file a property restoration claim. Questions about the process should be directed to Glentzer  at Jg7582@att.com or (317) 219-8620. To File a New Claim If you need to file a new claim, have the following information available: Location: The physical address or GPS coordinates for the location where damage occurred. Photos: Inc

4th of July Parade; no picnic this year

Family Fun celebration at Eagle Nest falls on the 4th of July.   We will have our annual parade at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse.  Kids and families may decorate their bikes, wagons, or strollers and then do a short parade to celebrate the 4th.    We will NOT have a picnic following the parade this year as many members who help out with the social activities were going to be out-of-town, and  we thought many families would have other plans for the 4th.  We will resume with the picnic next year when Family Fun Night is not on the actual 4th.   Eagle Nest longtime resident, Brandy Schneider, has agreed to chair the parade activities. Thank you Brandy!!   Next week on July 11, we will resume Jet's Pizza on Family Fun Night, and we also will give out 50 free snow cones from Kona Ice from 6- 7:30. submitted by Alice Miley

Note -- Annual Meeting date correction

Eagle Nest residents, Please note the date for the Annual Meeting listed in the letter and ballot recently mailed is incorrect. The meeting is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Clubhouse. (The letter and ballot incorrectly state June 28). Hey, at least we had the time, day of week and location correct! Time is short, so please submit your ballot by 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Clubhouse mailbox, or join us for the meeting and deliver it in person. We apologize for the misstep and any confusion this may have caused. The Eagle Nest Board

About those utility yard flags from the AT&T fiber optic installation project ...

In April, ATT began a fiber optic cable project throughout our neighborhood, necessitating some lots to be marked with small utility flags. Now that the installation work is completed, the AT&T contractor leading the project told the Board that any remaining flags can be removed and discarded. The contractor also said repairs to disrupted landscaping, unfilled holes or dirt mounds will be addressed this month. No timetable was immediately available (probably because of the recent rainy weather), but if you have specific requests/complaints please contact AT&T contractor Shak Ali directly at sali@veritacorp.com . Be aware: Residents report dangerous encounter with jogger's pit bulls

Image
Eagle Nest residents, We want to make you aware of a violent incident involving a pair of pit bulls on May 31 in the south end of our neighborhood. About 8:45 p.m., two residents were walking their small dog on the sidewalk north along Teel Way near Tanager & Mallard when a jogger with a pair of loosely leashed pit bulls approached from the other direction. The pit bulls – one silver gray, the other a light caramel and white, and both 50 to 60 pounds each – noticed the smaller dog, and they broke loose from their handler and moved aggressively toward the residents and their dog. The resident immediately grabbed his pet and hoisted it high, at which time both pit bulls lunged at the resident, jumping and clawing at him, before they were pulled away. After the incident, the residents exchanged words with the jogger before continuing their walk, and the jogger went on her way with the pit bulls. A short time later, the jogger returned in a newer model, dark blue 4-door Subaru

Farewell to a longtime Eagle Nest friend: Pool Manager Susan Anderson resigns

Fellow residents, As the saying goes, all good things eventually come to an end. And in our case, that means saying farewell to Susan Anderson, our longtime Pool Manager. Last month, Susan resigned her position, due to the growing demands of her full-time job, medical school studies and increasing family needs. In short, something had to give. That’s totally understandable, especially in today’s busy world. Since she was hired in 2011, Susan has always gone above and beyond to keep our aging Pool facility operational, and she often spent many off-hour days and nights tending to our problematic pump room. She used her connections to hire a talented and reliable lifeguard staff year after year, and she ensured our facility remained open every day through the season (and well after Labor Day, when most pools traditionally close). Although Susan never lived in Eagle Nest, she and her family were as familiar as many of our longtime neighbors. Her three daughters worked as lifeguards a

Happy Easter!

Image
The Eagle Nest Board wishes everyone a Happy Easter, and we hope your holiday weekend is filled with family, friends and peace! Speaking of Easter, thanks go out to all those families and children who turned out for our annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 14 at the Clubhouse. Despite the cold, damp conditions, we still had a great turnout for an egg hunt and activities inside the Clubhouse (the second year in a row, so let's hope for better weather next year!). It's always fun to meet new neighbors and the next generations of Eagle Nest residents! Thanks to Social Committee leader Alice Miley for organizing the event! As always, we welcome volunteers to help with our neighborhood social events, so if you're interested please send an email to alicemiley23@gmail.com and we'll get you plugged in. Be sure to keep an eye on our blog calendar of events so you don't miss out on our neighborhood activities. ( Click here to see the list). Happy Easter! The Eagle Nest B

Easter Egg Hunt - Sunday, April 14

Calling all Eagle Nest kids or grandkids of residents!!  Eagle Nest's annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place outside of the clubhouse on Sunday, April 14, from 3- 4 p.m.  Bring your own basket to find the many eggs that will be ready to be found.  Last year's big snow made us move the egg hunt inside; we feel that won't happen again, but the memory will make us enjoy the outdoor clubhouse area even more!  See you Sunday afternoon! submitted by Alice Miley

ATT plans installation of fiber optic cables in parts of Eagle Nest

Image
See this orange card? If you found one staked in your yard or in a neighbor’s, it’s a sign that AT&T is planning installation of fiber optic cables in your area soon, possibly in the next two weeks. According to the contractor, the cables will be buried in the easements or public right-of-way areas from the street to the rear of some properties, mostly in the southern (newer) part of the neighborhood. AT&T will strive to minimize disruption to landscaping, and all affected digging areas will be restored with regrading, grass seed and straw. Property owners should note that if you have fences, sheds or landscaping blocking access to affected areas, you may be responsible for removal and replacement in order for the utility to gain access. The ENPOA Board has no authority to prohibit installation or grant exceptions in these installation areas. If you have questions, call the AT&T contractor at (734) 351-8930 or check AT&T’s FAQs at www.att.com/Fiber/FA
