City completes repaving of Bittern Lane, Warbler Way
Finally, after years of requests, work to repair the bumpy roadways and uneven sidewalks along Bittern Lane and Warbler Way has been completed.
The project, which involved scraping 1½ inches of old asphalt and replacing with new, was done mid-September. Contractually, the city had until the end of 2010, said Virginia Cain, City-County councilwoman representing Eagle Nest, District 5.
The project, which involved scraping 1½ inches of old asphalt and replacing with new, was done mid-September. Contractually, the city had until the end of 2010, said Virginia Cain, City-County councilwoman representing Eagle Nest, District 5.
The Eagle Nest repairs were the only street projects approved and scheduled for Cain’s district this year, she said. Her district covers a wide area, too, ranging from Graham Road in the west, 96’th Street to the north, 71’st Street to the south, and Carroll Road to the east. That includes several highly trafficked areas, including Binford Avenue, the 82’nd Street/Castleton Mall area, 86’th Street/Fashion Mall area, Geist Reservoir, Hague and Sergeant roads, and Fall Creek Parkway.
The city also has repaired several uneven sections of sidewalk, as well as converting five curb entrances to make them compliant with the American Disabilities Act. The city graded and applied grass seed in those areas to repair the landscaping. Cain didn’t have a cost estimate for all the work, but she complimented the neighborhood association’s aggressiveness in prioritizing project requests.
Key residents who pressed the city for repairs were Susan Resner, the neighborhood’s former committee head for streets and sidewalks, and her successor Ann Clough.
