Burglars strike two Eagle Nest houses during daylight

Friday, Aug. 24, two burglaries were reported in our neighborhood, according to our Eagle Nest Crime Watch
Coordinator, per information provided by the BRAG Crime Watch.
The first burglary happened between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at a house in the 7700 block of Mallard Way. According the the homeowner, an implement was used to pry open the front door, breaking both the deadbolt and regular front door lock.Jewelry and cash was taken.
To minimize thefts, police recommend keeping all exterior storm doors locked and cars parked in garages. Don't leave valuables (GPS, laptops, jewelry, electronic games, or garage door openers) inside parked cars. Use security lights if available, and let neighbors know when you'll be gone for extended periods of time.

A second burglary was reported in the 7800 block of Tanager. It appears the same method of entry was used. It wasn't immediately know what items were taken.
The incidents come on the heels of several other recent burglaries in nearby neighborhoods:
- Devonshire -- burglary in the 6800 block of Canberra Circle (71st and Creekside Lane).
- East Avalon Hills -- burglary (jewelry) in the 7200 block of Eastwick Lane (71st/Shadeland).
- Lake Castleton Apartments -- burglary in the 7700 block of Newport Way.
- Castlebrook -- burglary about 3 p.m. in the
8400 block of Castlebrook Drive. (82nd St./Mary Castle School; the development is at the end of a long street
that is a dead end.)The front door was kicked in, which set off the house alarm but the thieves still entered and took several items.
- Mary Castle School area -- burglary (tools) north of the school, in the 8500 block of Scarsdale Drive West.
