Crime alert: Castle Cove breakin reported
A residence on Bayview Point was broken into about 11 a.m. (Tuesday, Jan 8). The following details are from a neighbor who witnessed the crime, as provided by the Castle Cove Crime Watch:
"A black Dodge Ram 1500 with chrome wheels and trim driven by a man wearing a large heavy coat pulled into the driveway. The passenger, wearing low-slung jeans with a chain, got out of the truck talking on the phone and then went to the front door. After no one answered, he signaled the driver, who put the hood of his coat over his head and got out of the truck. Both men were black and appeared to be in their 30s. They kicked in the front door, and police say they went straight to the master bedroom (common practice, because this is where most residents keep jewelry, cash, credit cards, guns, etc.). Jewelry and a computer were taken. Three patrol cars responded but the burglars had already left having been in and out very quickly. The resident had locked the dog away before she left so he was not harmed.

The
homeowner stated that she had received a blocked call to her cell phone
earlier in the morning, which she did not answer. The Villages
neighborhoods along East 86th Street reported a similar crime just before Christmas, including the mysterious phone calls which
may be attempts to determine if residents are home. A truck similar to the Castle Cove incident also was spotted in The
Villages."
Note to Eagle Nest residents: While this incident did not occur in our neighbhorhood, crime knows no boundries. Castle Cove is a nearby neighborhood; this easily could been one of our properties. Please be alert and call 911 about any suspicious activity in our area. Try to get a license plate number if you see a suspicious vehicle, too.
