Double the fun: Playground dedication, Colts watch party at Clubhouse a success
The Eagle Nest Board would like to thank everyone who turned out last weekend for the Playground Dedication and the Colts Watch Party. The dual event was held in recognition of the association's first major grounds improvement in decades (possibly even since the Clubhouse was built in the 1970s), as well as celebrate the great neighborhood life in Eagle Nest.
Playground Dedication: About a dozen kids turned out throughout the afternoon to test the slides, the climbing poles, swings and other features of the new set. The Social Committee provided small prizes, cupcakes and juice boxes for the kids on hand to keep their energy going, too. The Board had hoped to have the project finished sooner (ground was broken Sept. 30, with work finished Oct. 23), but Recreation Unlimited's busy installation schedule and the late
summer rains caused unexpected delays. Some have asked, why the dramatic move? The original equipment was falling apart and increasingly unsafe, and its location was problematic because of increasing erosion along the sloping hillside and the nearby drainage creek filled with chemicals, critters and bugs. The end-result: high-quality equipment with easy access to the pool (a new side gate entrance was installed, and future plans may include a sidewalk and picnic benches), all in clear view of our security cameras. Not surprisingly, early feedback from parents (including those on hand for the dedication, shown at top) has been overwhelmingly positive. Suffice to say, the Board thanks residents for their patience and understanding (and for the early guidance and counsel of Playground Replacement and Relocation Committee leader Kerri Switzer).
Colts Watch Party: After Playground dedication, more than two dozens residents and a handful of their kids turned out for the first Clubhouse watch party using our new big-screen TV. Despite the Colts wipeout, it was a great opportunity for new and longtime residents to mingle, share some pro football camaraderie and enjoy some complimentary sub sandwiches, pitch-in side salads, chips, deserts, etc. (Thanks to everyone who pitched in, too.). This was the first of what the Social Committee hopes will be a regular schedule of Clubhouse events in the months (and years) ahead. So, save the following dates: On December 2 (7 p.m.), enjoy some holiday cookies and other baked treats with Santa (in person!), a great opportunity for family Christmas photos. And on January 24 (7 p.m.), the 2nd Annual Beer Fest -- bring your own home brew or a growler of your favorite craft beer -- is sure to beat this year's inaugural event. As always, all Clubhouse neighborhood events are free. Keep an eye on the Eagle Nest events calendar for Social Committee updates. More photos to come.
It's worth noting that the Board tips its hat to all former Board Officers and Directors who worked for years to build a fiscal reserve large enough to cover the remodeled Pool bathrooms new Playground for residents to enjoy for years to come. Further, it's worth noting the current Board volunteered countless hours of personal time and energy during the past year to formulate, coordinate and execute these massive projects, the largest in the neighborhood's history. Suffice to say, it all was worth the wait.
