Little Free Library in Eagle Nest!
A new house will be erected in Eagle Nest the first weekend in June! A Free Little Library, donated by long-time resident Annette Donegan, will be set up at the Clubhouse for our whole community. There are more than 65,000 Little Free Libraries across the country with the motto - Take a book, Return a book. And now Eagle Nest is among those locations.
"Being an educator, I have a passion for reading," said Annette, who taught first grade at Nora Elementary for 38 years and who has lived in Eagle Nest for 32 years. "I felt like we had a great location at the Clubhouse. Many kids don't have access to books or haven't discovered the joy of reading."
After learning about the Free Libraries, Annette designed one and found a carpenter who helped her build it. Eagle Nest resident and artist Sheila Jackson painted designs on the sides. Another resident, Don Ugoletti, installed the Little Library in the area near the Clubhouse bike rack. Don and his daughter, Mattea, were interested in the idea of the library before they knew that Annette had donated one.
There will be a dedication of the Free Little Library on Sunday, June 3, before the Ice Cream Social at 3 p.m. Any books, for kids or adults, can be put in the Little Library. Annette encouraged readers to write a little note after they read a book so others might choose to read it. If readers love a book and want to keep it, they can.
Our Little Library is registered on the website's map. The Eagle Next Board thanks Annette and all those involved who made our Eagle Nest Little Library a reality. Let's make this a summer of reading!
