Be aware: Residents report dangerous encounter with jogger's pit bulls
Eagle Nest residents,
We want to make you aware of a violent incident involving a pair of pit bulls on May 31 in the south end of our neighborhood. About 8:45 p.m., two residents were walking their small dog on the sidewalk north along Teel Way near Tanager & Mallard when a jogger with a pair of loosely leashed pit bulls approached from the other direction.
The pit bulls – one silver gray, the other a light caramel and white, and both 50 to 60 pounds each – noticed the smaller dog, and they broke loose from their handler and moved aggressively toward the residents and their dog. The resident immediately grabbed his pet and hoisted it high, at which time both pit bulls lunged at the resident, jumping and clawing at him, before they were pulled away.
After the incident, the residents exchanged words with the jogger before continuing their walk, and the jogger went on her way with the pit bulls. A short time later, the jogger returned in a newer model, dark blue 4-door Subaru Impreza and approached the couple again along Mallard Way, and she apologized for the incident. She did not identify herself, and it is not known whether she is an Eagle Nest resident. The residents did not capture her license plate number, but the fact that she returned so quickly to the scene suggests she lives in the area.
This isn’t the first time these animals were involved in an aggressive encounter. A resident not involved with Friday’s attack stated that she witnessed the same handler and her pit bulls involved in a similar attack in front of her home.
The jogger is described as a fit white woman, about 100 pounds, in her late 50s/early 60s, with graying blond, mid-shoulder-length hair. If you see her with her pit bulls, please use extreme caution and call 911 immediately to report a suspect with dangerous animals. If you witnessed this incident and have the name or address of the jogger please contact the Eagle Nest Board so we can notify authorities.
