Board Update: free swim lessons, speeding motorists, equipment reminder, food trucks, social meeting
Eagle Nest residents,
We hope everyone is doing well and having a great summer, despite the ongoing COVID-19 concerns. We know the days and nights get long with the constant barrage of bad health news, so here’s something exciting to look forward to: The Board Update will become a regular weekly communication! OK, we know that may not be terribly exciting news, but hey, it’s a great way to stay connected to the neighborhood. And it’s free! Just watch your email inbox, our Facebook page and the Eagle Nest blog for the latest each weekend (publication day may vary, depending on news developments). If you have topics to include, please contact Board President Scott Thien at scottthien@comcast.net.
FREE SWIM LESSONS: That’s right, our annual tradition starts later this month! Our Pool staff will host two sessions – daily lessons the weeks of July 20-24 and July 27-31. Lessons are in half-hour increments: 9 a.m. to 9:30, and 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (maximum of six slots per half-hour). Lessons are open to all residents in good standing, ages 3 and older; siblings can be taught together in one slot. All participants must have a waiver signed by parents due the first day. Masks not required. Residents looking for private lessons can approach the guards to negotiate fees and hours. Look for the signup sheet in the patio area on Monday, July 13.
SLOW DOWN! Now that summer is here and school is out, we’ve had an increase in complaints about speeders and reckless drivers in the neighborhood. This isn’t a new issue, of course, and we’re not the only neighborhood with this problem. Many motorists – including residents – routinely disregard posted speed limit signs, pass unsafely or blow through stop signs. Some offenders don’t even live in our neighborhood, as we are a convenient cut-through for the area. Then again, some offenders are residents, too. The Board has no enforcement powers, of course, but local police do. If you feel threatened or witness an unsafe or suspicious motorist, we encourage you to grab a license plate number and report it to IMPD or call 911.
BOATS/CAMPER REMINDER: We know some folks are still coming off a long July 4 holiday weekend, and that COVID-19 has everyone cooped up, but a reminder that boats, campers, trailers and similar vehicles can’t be parked “in view of the Development for more than a 48-hour period.” (Rules of Restrictions, Section 5D). Several lots have contacted the Board directly for extensions, and that’s fine. We appreciate the courtesy. Some lots haven’t, namely on Bittern, Mockingbird, Tanager and Warbler, so please address your equipment accordingly. Thank you.
FOOD TRUCKS: A reminder that the following food trucks will be at the Clubhouse as a continuing convenience for residents:
- July 14, 5-8 p.m.: Johnson's BBQ (pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, classic BBQ sides)
- July 21, 5-8 p.m.: Johnson's BBQ (They are so good we know you’ll want a repeat visit!)
- July 28, 5-8 p.m.: Edwards Diner (Classic state fair-like menu items without the sweaty crowds)
Also, look for Jet’s Pizza every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. $5 personal pizzas (sausage, pepperoni or cheese), hot, boxed and ready to go. CASH only. Get there early, because once they’re gone, they’re gone.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE MEETING: If you’re an ideas person who has a flair for organizing events, please attend the ENPOA Social Committee Meeting on Monday, July 13, from 6- 7 p.m., at the Clubhouse. We’re looking for new blood, new ideas for kids and adults in our neighborhood. We have a spacious Clubhouse, pool and sports courts at our disposal, so bring those ideas!
(P.S. – Due to scheduling issues, the Snow Cone Night on Thursday, July 16, at the Clubhouse has been postponed. A rescheduled date has not yet been determined.)
That's it for this week. As always, feel free to contact any Board member with questions, concerns or suggestions. Have a great weekend!
On behalf of the Board,
