ANNUAL DUES STATEMENTS IN THE MAIL
It’s that time of year again – time to pay your annual association dues. Invoices were mailed to all residents last weekend and should start arriving in mailboxes this week. (If we have your current email address, you will receive an email offering the option to pay securely online via ACH electronic debit.) We have to keep the streets lights on, so your prompt payment is appreciated. Simply mail your dues by May 1 to ENPOA, 8075 Teel Way, Indianapolis, IN 46256. Thanks to the Board’s great stewardship, Eagle Nest annual dues remain the same at $400 for the third-consecutive year!
MEET THE NEIGHBORS: BRETT AND MARIA FARRELL
One sign of a good neighborhood is that people want to stay. Brett and Maria Farrell, for example, had a house built by Cold Spring Builders on Tanager Lane. In 1976.
Forty-four years in the same house? Yep, and they don’t plan on leaving any time soon.
"Eagle Nest is beautifully located near so many things, with a nice mix of houses by different builders, a quality HOA with fun neighborhood activities and nice amenities such as pool, clubhouse, tennis/pickleball and basketball courts," Brett told us. "We're blessed to have great neighbors who have become valued friends. We look out for each other and all work to keep our neighborhood nice for everyone."
Brett, a former Eli Lilly scientist who jokes that he "used to do drugs for a living," is retired now. He and Maria enjoy their vegetable garden, tennis, skiing and a tank of tropical fish.
Everybody has an Eagle Nest story, it seems. Brett recalls that the neighborhood was featured on the "Home-A-Rama" show after the neighborhood was founded in 1974.
"It became so popular for several years after that, that many of the Indiana Pacers bought homes here," Brett said. NBA residents included Vern Fleming and Clark Kellogg.
"Although the Pacers didn't allow them to play actual basketball games on our courts, it was fun to watch them play Horse or to compete with them on the tennis courts," Brett said.
Got a minute to help "Meet the Neighbors"? This newsletter feature includes short introductions to help Eagle Nest folks get to know each other. Just email scottthien@comcast.net a couple photos and answers to the following questions:
- How long have you lived in Eagle Nest and where did you move from?
- The kind of work you do or have done.
- What you do for fun.
- The things you like best about the neighborhood, and what you appreciate the most about your neighbors.
- A fun or amusing story about your time in Eagle Nest.
It’s also fine if you would like to nominate someone else for a “Meet the Neighbors” introduction. We think that this feature will help more folks get to know other residents and feel a greater sense of community and support for each other - and for a great neighborhood. – Compiled by John Strauss, Eagle Nest blog contributor and Tanager Court resident
POLL: ATTENDING IN-PERSON CRIME WATCH MEETINGS
Late last year, we polled residents to see if they would attend our February 2 Crime Watch meeting in person if socially distanced and masks were required. Results: Results: 35 responses – Yes 68.6% (24), No 31.4% (11)
The Board's take: Based on those poll results, we’re excited to hold our first Crime Watch event of 2021 at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Bonus: free food and gift cards!). More importantly, we appreciate everyone’s efforts to remain alert and vigilant in looking out for each other. As the adage goes: If you see something say something – call 911 without hesitation. 911 isn’t just for fires or medical emergencies. Police say they prefer to engage a suspicious person or activity before a crime occurs than pick up the pieces afterward. Based on city crime stats, Eagle Nest in general is virtually crime-free, compared to area developments – and we’d like to keep it that way. If you want to join our Crime Watch, email chair Carolyn Goldenetz at goldenetz@gmail.com.
