December events: Santa visits (twice!), kid card decorating, holiday lights contest

Hello, Eagle Nest residents! We hope the upcoming holiday season is everything you wish for and more. To kick things off, we have one last round of great social events for all ages. Save these December dates and join us at the Clubhouse:

Dec. 3, 9 to 11 a.m.: Donuts, Juice and Coffee with Santa.
That’s right, we’ll have Santa in-person at our Clubhouse, a return of a longtime Eagle Nest tradition for kids of all ages! Start your weekend morning off with donuts, juice, coffee and a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and share your holiday wish list. Take those precious family photos with the kids or grandchildren (or just you!) Don't stand in line at the mall to pay for a picture with Santa – it’s free at our Clubhouse.

We also will have a card decorating station set up for kids to create holiday greetings for area nursing homes, the IMPD substation and the 75th Street fire station. Every child who turns in a decorated card will earn a McDonald’s Happy Meal. Can’t make the Santa event but still want to donate a decorated card? Drop it in the Eagle Nest mailbox, 8075 Teel Way, along with your name by Dec. 18 and we’ll get your Happy Meal coupon(s) to you. Happy holidays from the Board!

Dec. 18, 2 to 5 p.m.: 3rd Annual Santa Claus Neighborhood Drive-thru.
Santa returns to Eagle Nest with Mrs. Claus (aka residents Tom and Cindy Corbett of Warbler Way) for a drive through the neighborhood on their decorated sleigh (OK, it’s a pickup, but you get the idea) tossing candy, posing for selfies and spreading lots of holiday cheer. This is a great opportunity for kids to meet the jolly old fellow, his wife and elf helper one last time before Christmas! To get your name on Santa’s drive-thru route, email Board President Scott Thien and he’ll pass word to the North Pole!

Dec. 23, 8 p.m.:
Annual Holiday Lights and Decorating Contest. You know the drill. Deck the exterior halls with lights and decorations, flip the switch by 8 p.m. and hope our secret panel of judges picks your house as the neighborhood’s best. First place earns a $50 gift card, with prizes for second and third place, too. We’ll post the winners on the blog and Facebook, so stay tuned. Thanks in advance for brightening up the gray days of December and making our neighborhood warm and inviting.

And coming in 2023: Winter Beerfest and Chili Cookoff, a pairing of two of our most popular events in one night. For the Beerfest, simply bring a growler of your favorite brew or your canned favorites to share. For the Chili Cookoff, bring a crockpot of your best stuff and residents will taste test vote for the best. We’ll have gift cards for top three finishers. Watch the blog, Facebook and your email for more details in late January or early February.

Questions/want to join the Social Committee? Email Social Chair Brigette Stephens at bestephens4@gmail.com. See you in December at the Clubhouse!

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
