June Board Update: Pool fobs and baby pool, dues recap, lawn mowing reminder, Curb Appeal Awards and more!
Summer has arrived in Eagle Nest, and the big neighborhood news is the opening of the Pool! Following is your June Board Update for more on that, as well as a few other need-to-know nuggets:
Pool security fobs: Overwhelmingly positive support: That best sums up resident reaction to our new security fob system at the Pool this season. To date, nearly 300 of our 419 lot owners have picked up their fobs, a great indication of neighborhood appreciation for of our facility.
To obtain your fob, you must contact Board VP Jason Van Meter jpvanmeter@sbcglobal.net or 317-755-7550 to make drop-off arrangements and sign a waiver/acceptance form. Fobs will only be issued to residents whose annual dues are paid in full and whose properties are clear of any covenant violations.
For general Pool questions, please contact Pool Manager Sam Burns at samanthaburns51@gmail.com or 317-372-4329. As a reminder, our Pool rules are available on the blog.
Huge thanks go out to Jason and his wife and Bookkeeper Chris’e Van Meter, who staffed three in-person fob distribution sessions the week the pool opened, and have coordinated delivery of hundreds of fobs since then. They have gone above and beyond with the fob rollout and been longtime supporters in making Eagle Nest one of the best neighborhoods around. Thank you, Jason and Chris’e!
Baby Pool update: After more than a two-week closure, the baby pool has reopened! At issue: The pool’s filter basket was broken, and leaky plumbing had compromised the pump’s pressure. Suffice to say, a $1,000 repair bill later we are good again. Thanks, parents of our littlest Eagle Nesters, for your patience.
Playground request: Parents, when your kids are in the playground please remind them not to climb or play on the retaining wall fence. It is not intended for recreation! The Association spent a considerable amount on installation, and we doubt families would appreciate a bill for repairs or replacement. More importantly, we don’t want anyone to get hurt! If you see kids playing on or around the fence – even if they aren’t your relatives – please direct them to stop. Protect and preserve our Association assets!
Lawn mowing reminder: We know life is busy, and that vacations sometimes get in the way, but the Board reminds residents that our covenants require regular lawn maintenance. Sure, it’s been a rainy spring, but now that the hotter, sunny weather is here we hope – expect – residents will stay on top of their lot duties. We’ve had complaints about several properties for high grass and excessive weeds near Hague Road, along Teel Way and in some courts. Left unattended for too long, our covenants allow the Board to hire a contractor to square away unkempt lots and bill the homeowners. Please do your part, as we would rather not go down that legal and costly route.

Curb Appeal Awards: Speaking of lots, it’s that time of year when the Board welcomes nominations for our semi-annual Curb Appeal Awards. The process is simple: Email the street address of an Eagle Nest property you think deserves to be recognized to scottthien@comcast.net by June 31, then watch the blog for results. As in the past, first, second and third place winners will be awarded gift cards of $50, $35 and $25, respectively. Here’s a link to our 2023 winners. And yes, you can nominate your own lot!
Annual dues recap: Thank you to all the residents who paid their 2024 annual dues on time – the Board appreciates your cooperation. Thanks to you, we were able to keep the neighborhood street lights on, open and maintain the pool, and pay our staff (Bookkeeper Chris’e Van Meter, Clubhouse Manager Kelly Dentler, and Pool Manager Sam Burns and her lifeguard team) to keep things running.
Historically, the majority of our lot owners has a great payment history, but our legal counsel always has to chase a handful of residents for non-payment (and that’s despite the fact that invoices were sent five months ago.) This year, we’re down to seven residents on the non-payment list. Unfortunately, as previously reported, all unpaid accounts as of July 1 will be turned over for collections. At that point, it’s out of our hands -- a costly bill for some given the added legal costs and late fees.
That aside, we are on target to close our dues books in the best shape they’ve been in years. Thank you!
Calling all Pickleball fans: Recent email blasts asked the question, “Would you join an organized neighborhood Pickleball league at our tennis courts?” OK, maybe league was a little strong … club is more fitting. Regardless, more than 50 residents responded yes, so if you’re interested in helping organize a meet-and-greet of interested players or folks who want to learn, please contact Social Committee Co-Chairs Sarah Craney at mssarahjourdan@gmail.com and Marcella Kates at marcellakates@gmail.com.
Our courts don’t get a lot of use, so we’ve put off such maintenance the past few years to focus on our more popular and demanding facilities -- the Pool and Clubhouse. If interest in pickleball is strong the Board will look at getting them cleaned up and repaired. It all comes down to resident use and feedback.
Annual Meeting reminder: And finally, a reminder the Eagle Nest Annual Meeting and Board Election is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. Please be sure to submit your ballots in-person or in the Clubhouse mailbox at 8075 Teel Way before then.
As always, feel free to reach out to any Board member with questions or suggestions. Happy summer!
On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
