Board Update: 5 things about the Pool, food truck schedule, dues update, swimming lessons, Crime Watch meeting recap
Here is a look at neighborhood news for the week of May 17:
POOL SEASON IS ALMOST HERE – TWO WEEKS TO GO!
With all that’s happened in the past year, we know residents couldn’t be more excited for the start of the 2021 Pool season. And it’s only two weeks away! At this writing, we’re targeting Memorial Day weekend to kick things off (weather permitting), but watch the blog and Facebook page for the official opening date.
In the meantime, following are five things you need to know about the Pool this year:
No. 1 -- COVID-19 restrictions: Per mandate of the Marion County Health Department, our max capacity inside the fence is 50 people. That means our lifeguard staff may need to limit the number of people in the facility at one time. This is not negotiable, because the county could shut us down if we’re found to be in violation. In addition, masks are required when entering the Pool bathrooms. Social distancing of 6 feet also must be observed when around non-family Pool patrons. No masks while in the Pool (including the baby wading pool). We know the CDC recently updated its guidance on mask usage, but we still fall under MCHD mandates and must observe those directives accordingly or risk closure.
No. 2 -- COVID-19 release forms: Like last season, every household is required to fill out and sign a COVID-19 release form. This form covers everyone in your household and only needs to be done once. Residents in good standing will receive the form with Pool tags by the end of the month. Simply give your completed form to the lifeguard staff upon entering the facility.
No. 3 -- Pool tags: Everyone who enters the Pool must have a current 2021 tag. (Tags were mailed to all homeowners in good standing on Saturday, May 22.) Our lifeguard staff has been instructed to deny entry to anyone who does not present a valid tag upon request. If you forget it, you’ll have to go home and get it. No exceptions, no excuses. This is to protect our staff, our residents and weed out non-residents. Oh, one more thing: Don't expect any tags if you regularly leave your blue garbage carts out in plain view from the street. That’s a violation of our legally recorded Declaration of Restrictions (Section 5F), and the Board has the right to withhold tags from violators. Please do your part – eliminate this trashy look (pun intended). Unpaid dues also will result in loss of tags. Contact Board President Scott Thien at scottthien@comcast.net – not the Pool Manager or lifeguard staff – to discuss your missing tags.
No. 4 -- Pool rules: Please follow them. You will get a copy along with your Pool tags. You also can see the rules on our blog (or click here). Violators will be ejected and risk the loss of future Pool access. Our lifeguard staff appreciates your cooperation for everyone’s safety.
No. 5 -- Hours: Please note the new 2021 Pool hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with the last hour daily reserved for adult swim.
OUR SUMMER FOOD TRUCK LINEUP IS COMPLETE!
We’re happy to announce that our 2021 summer food truck lineup at the Clubhouse is complete! Here is who we have lined up every Tuesday and Thursday, starting in June through September (all dates on the blog Events page):
Jet’s Pizza: The $5 personal pizzas are coming back every Thursday! Beginning June 3, Jet’s will sell their 4-piece sausage, cheese or pepperoni pizzas – hot, boxed and ready to go. Cash only. Get there early because they sell out early!
ChefTLC: One of our first partners last year, the Black-owned food bus – not a truck, a bus! – serves up comfort food and all your favorite fried sides. They have crazy good, made-from-scratch desserts, too. When: first Tuesday every month.
Serendipity: One of the most requested food trucks around, Serendipity brings an eclectic menu of elk burger sliders, chicken tacos, Cuban sandwiches, hand-cut truffle fries and more. When: second Tuesday of every month.
Union Jack: That’s right, the renowned, decades-old Broad Ripple favorite is bringing back its pork tenderloins, Bavarian pretzel bread sticks and queso, fish and chips, mac and cheese and more. When: third Tuesday of every month.
Bearded Bagel (formerly Bagel Boss): That’s right, New York-style steamed bagel sandwich experts are back by popular demand with a wide menu of specially crafted creations. They also will debut a new concept truck: Bearded Burgers (and chicken). When: the fourth Tuesday every month.
Remember, Food Truck Tuesdays and Jet’s Pizza Thursdays! (Face masks required at all events until Marion County lifts the mandate.) We also are working on a few surprises for the kids, so watch the blog Events page for details!
UPDATE ON DUES AND LATE FEES STRUCTURE
As mentioned in our last update, the Board thanks the hundreds of residents who paid their 2021 annual dues on time. At this writing, we have a few dozen of our 419 lots that are still unpaid, which is unfortunate because that sets in motion a late fee structure. If you haven’t paid your dues yet, here is what that looks like:
- After May 31, your dues will be $425.
- After June 15, your dues will be $450.
- After July 1, your dues will be $475, and you will be turned over to our lawyer for collections. Once that happens, it’s out of our hands and you will be responsible for all attorney’s fees related to the collection process.
We had a few complaints about unanswered calls and emails to confirm dues were received. We’ve been a little slow on that, mainly because our Bookkeeper/Admin Lead was on vacation recently. Upon her return she found nearly 150 checks in the Clubhouse mailbox. Suffice to say, it takes time for one person to process a pile of correspondence like that, so we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through that.
We understand nobody likes paying dues, but it is legally required to live in Eagle Nest. We have to keep the street lights on, the grass mowed, the bushes trimmed, the snow plowed, and facilities maintained and operating. Compared to area neighborhoods with similar facilities we are a bargain -- the third consecutive year with no dues increase!
To pay your dues, simply drop your payment (no cash, please) in the secure ENPOA mailbox at 8075 Teel Way, Indianapolis, 46256. Didn’t get an invoice or have a payment issue? Contact Bookkeeper/Admin Lead Chris’e Van Meter at enpoa_sec@att.net.
Note: Per our controlling documents, unpaid lots will not receive Pool tags or access to the Clubhouse until your accounts are brought current. If you pay your dues at the last minute at the end of May, don’t expect immediate turnaround on your pool tags and access to the Pool. It takes time for checks to clear, even if postmarked May 31.
CRIME WATCH MEETING RECAP
Earlier this month, ENPOA residents gathered for a Crime Watch meeting at the Clubhouse. On the agenda: how to make your home a hard target for burglars. One way to catch such criminals is through video surveillance. B-link Indy a new city anti-crime initiative powered by the Indy Public Safety Foundation and IMPD. It is an innovative new initiative that uses technology to link personal and business security cameras with IMPD for enhanced public safety. If you would like more information or to register your camera, go to www.blinkindy.org.
Meeting attendees also reviewed the latest crime stats (December to March) in the BRAG (Binford Redevelopment and Growth Association) area and specifically Eagle Nest. For us, most neighborhood criminal activity has been burglary of unlocked cars. To prevent this, lock your cars if you have to leave them outside and park in well-lit areas. Seems simple enough, but residents often forget.
Finally, the meeting ended with gifts! Residents Helen Galvin and Jeanne Scheuring took home a Wyze pan camera. The next Crime Watch meeting is 7 p.m. August 3, which also is National Night Out. A city employee of Indianapolis or IMPD will join us for the family friendly meeting.
Missed the meeting and want more information? Contact Eagle Nest Crime Watch Director Carolyn Goldenetz at goldenetz@gmail.com.

POLL: PARENTS WANT SWIMMING LESSONS
Our last Constant Contact email poll question asked, “Would you enroll your kids in free swimming lessons conducted by our Pool staff this summer?” The results: 36 responses. Yes, 97.2% (35 residents), No, 2.8% (one resident). The Board’s take: Well, suffice to say parents want swimming lessons! Our Pool staff is excited to teach young Eagle Nesters the ways of the water, so be on the lookout for a signup sheet on the windows under the back deck soon. Lessons are first-come, first-served in the mornings in mid-June; the final dates are still be worked out. We’ll post more information on the blog as soon as it is available. Those of you who responded to the poll will get a direct message with more information, too.
In the meantime, if you know someone looking for a lifeguard job, please ask them to email Pool Manager Samantha Burns at samantha.burns51@gmail.com. We pay competitive wages, provide a free staff swimsuit, and lifeguards do not need to be Eagle Nest residents to join our team. And all guards get a free suntan!
