Board Update: Crime Watch meeting, food truck lineup grows, dues and late fees update, Meet the Neighbors
Hello Eagle Nest
residents,
Here is a look at neighborhood news for the week of May 3:
CRIME WATCH MEETING 7 P.M. TUESDAY, MAY 4
All residents are invited to attend Tuesday’s Crime Watch meeting at 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. The main topic: effective ways to burglar-proof your home. Also, learn about a new city anti-crime initiative and why you should join the free network, and get the latest area crime stats (December to March) from BRAG (Binford Redevelopment and Growth Association). As always, we’ll have light snacks and beverages, as well as some exciting high-tech prizes you can use to improve your home safety.
Questions? Contact Eagle Nest
Crime Watch Director Carolyn Goldenetz at goldenetz@gmail.com. See you Tuesday!
SUMMER FOOD TRUCK LINEUP KEEPS GROWING
Great news -- our 2021 summer food truck schedule at the Clubhouse is growing fast! Here’s who we have lined up so far to visit Eagle Nest every Tuesday and Thursday, starting in June and running through September:
Jet’s Pizza: The $5 personal pizzas are coming back
every Thursday! Beginning June 3, Jet’s will sell their 4-piece sausage, cheese
or pepperoni pizzas – hot, boxed and ready to go. Cash only. Get there early
because they sell out early!
ChefTLC: One of our first partners last year, the Black-owned food bus – not a truck, a bus! – serves up comfort food and all your favorite fried sides. They have crazy good, made-from-scratch desserts, too. When: first Tuesday every month.
Serendipity: One of the most requested food trucks around, Serendipity brings an eclectic menu of elk burger sliders, chicken tacos, Cuban sandwiches, hand-cut truffle fries and more. When: second Tuesday of every month.

Union Jack: That's right, the renowned decades-old Broad Ripple favorite is bringing back its pork tenderloins, Bavarian pretzel bread sticks and queso, fish and chips, mac and cheese and more. When: third Tuesday of every month.
Remember, Food Truck Tuesdays and Jet’s
Pizza Thursdays! (Face masks required at all events until Marion County
discontinues the health mandate.) We are working on a few other vendors –
Bearded Bagel, maybe Cajun or Mexican – to fill the fourth week of every month,
and we’ll have a few surprises for the kids, too, so keep an eye on the blog’s
Events page
for details!
UPDATE ON DUES AND LATE FEES STRUCTURE
A sincere thanks to the hundreds of residents who paid their 2021 annual dues on time. Timely payment helps keep our Association books square, of course, as well as keep the street lights on, the grass mowed, the bushes trimmed, and facilities maintained and operating. We know no one likes paying bills, but it goes with the territory of living in Eagle Nest. And compared to area neighborhoods with similar facilities we are a bargain -- the third consecutive year with no dues increase!
Unfortunately, several dozen homeowners missed the May 1 deadline, which triggers a late-fee structure and possible collection process. For those unpaid lots, please note the following key dates:
- After May 31, your dues will be $425.
- After June 15, your dues will be $450.
- After July 1, your dues will be $475, and you will be turned over to our lawyer for collections. Once that happens, it's out of our hands and you will be responsible for all attorney’s fees related to the collection process.
Also of note: Per our
controlling documents, all unpaid lots will not receive Pool tags or access to the
Clubhouse until your accounts are brought current. If you pay your dues at the
last minute at the end of May, don’t expect immediate turnaround on your pool
tags and access to the Pool. It takes time for check payments to clear, even if
the postmark shows before May 31. Our limited staff can only do so much
processing in a limited time, too, so please plan ahead.
To pay your dues, simply
drop your payment (no cash, please) in the secure ENPOA mailbox at 8075 Teel
Way, Indianapolis, 46256. Didn’t get an invoice or have a payment issue?

MEET THE NEIGHBORS: TANAGER COURT'S NATHAN AND AMY MILLER
Two of Eagle Nest's newest arrivals -- Nathan and Amy Miller -- had been living in
Greenfield and looking for a new house for a couple of years when they found
the perfect place on Tanager Court.
“We enjoy the character of the neighborhood, the older homes and neighbors who take great care of their homes,” Nathan said. “Our neighbors have been very friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home in a new area.”
They're still exploring, he said. “Since we only moved in last June and were busy getting settled into the house, we never got to enjoy the pool and never stopped by the food trucks -- both of which we look forward to enjoying this spring and summer.”
Amy is a cardiac ultrasound sonographer at Riley Hospital for Children, taking images of children's hearts to help with diagnosis of congenital heart disease. She cares deeply about providing excellent care for her patients. Nathan is a real estate professional who works for a local civil engineering and consulting firm. He appraises and negotiates for rights-of-way required for highways, bridges, trails and other projects.
“We enjoy getting out for walks, working on house projects, spending time with family, being involved at our church, traveling, reading, and watching movies or a good series,” Nathan said.
Moving during the pandemic had its challenges -- one surprise in particular coming from below.
“It wasn’t exactly fun at the time, but we did find a raccoon living in our crawl space for about a week,” Amy said. “We noticed the door to our crawl space kept opening each night, so Nathan crawled down there and spotted our unwanted roommate.”
They didn’t catch it, but discovered an eco-friendly home remedy that encouraged the critter to vacate the premises. “We used apple cider vinegar,” Amy said. “Spraying it in and around the crawl space seems to have encouraged the raccoon to find a new home.”

Our “Meet the Neighbors” series highlights new and longtime residents to help Eagle Nest folks get to know each other and build a sense of community. If you would like to tell your story, or nominate a resident, simply email neighborhood storyteller and Tanager Court resident John Strauss at johncstrauss@gmail.com (He’s an interesting guy himself: longtime journalist with gigs at the IndyStar, WTHR, WFYI, WIBC, The Associated Press and Ball State.) He’ll take good care of you, promise. All you need to do is answer a few questions:
- How long you have lived in Eagle Nest and where you moved from?
- The kind of work you do or have done?
- What you do for fun?
- The things you like best about the neighborhood, and what you appreciate the most about your neighbors?
- What’s a fun or amusing story about your time in Eagle Nest?
POLL: RESIDENTS SAY YES TO BLOG LIST OF CONTRACTORS
Our last Constant Contact email poll question asked,
“Would you like a blog list of residents’ recommended home repair contractors
and service providers? The results: 50 responses. Yes, 96% (48 residents), No,
4% (2 residents).
The Board’s take: Based on the poll response, it's obvious residents would like a go-to list of preferred plumbers,
electricians, home remodelers, roofers, landscapers, lawn mowers, tree
trimmers, etc. If you had a recent good experience with one of those services,
please send the company’s name, website and a couple sentences summarizing what
they did for you and why you liked them to scottthien@comcast.net.
IN OTHER NEWS:
SAVE THE DATE: Our annual neighborhood Garage Sale is set for Friday and Saturday, June 4-5. Watch the blog for more details as we get closer to that weekend, but in the meantime start clearing out those garages and attics!
LIFEGUARDS
WANTED: Eagle Nest is still seeking a few more
lifeguards for our 2021 pool season, which begins May 29. If you know someone
looking for fun, outdoor work this summer, please ask them to contact Pool
Manager Samantha Burns at samanthaburns51@gmail.com.
We pay competitive wages, provide a free staff swimsuit, and lifeguards do not
need to be Eagle Nest residents to join our team. And all guards get a free
suntan! (All employees must be current in their Red Cross certification.
Samantha can provide more info about that).
TRASH CART REMINDER: Please keep our development from looking trashy -- please store your trash and recycling roll carts out of sight (ideally in the garage or in the back of your home). It’s actually required by our Declarations of Restrictions (Section 5F). We'll be sending out Pool passes at the end of the month, and violators won't have access until those carts are stored away properly. Just saying. Thank you for your cooperation.
