Board Update: Leaf pickups begin Tuesday, blood drive coming to Clubhouse, Tuesday’s food truck, essay contest update

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of November 9:

BE-LEAF IT! WEEKLY LEAF PICKUPS BEGIN TUESDAY

Get those leaf bags ready: The Department of Public Works begins its annual leaf pickup program on Tuesday. Each trash day through December 1, the city will pick up a maximum of 40 leaf bags per week. DPW guidelines for pickup:
  • Place leaves in plastic bags. Paper bags are permitted, but they can deteriorate and break apart in wet weather. DPW may not pick up broken bags.
  • Keep bags at least three feet away from your trash cart for easy pickup.
  • Leaf bags should be out by 7 a.m. on our normal trash day each Tuesday.
  • While you’re raking, please be a good neighbor and clear leaves from storm drain inlets to prevent drainage and flooding problems.
  • Don’t panic if your leaves are still there after the first trash run: A second truck dedicated to leaves only will pass through the development.
  • Remember, burning leaves is illegal in Marion County, so don’t hesitate to call 911 and file a non-emergency report for violators. (Unless you like to choke on smoke and inhale dangerous particulates wafting through your open windows during this unseasonably enjoyable November weather.) SAVE THE DATE, SAVE A LIFE: BLOOD DRIVE NOVEMBER 23
On Monday, Nov. 23, Eagle Nest is partnering with Versiti to host a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Versiti is the primary provider of blood and plasma donations for area blood banks and medical centers, including Community Hospital North. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER YOUR SPOT.

Versiti is experiencing an emergency blood shortage, which means accident and trauma victims, premature babies, cancer patients, and so many other Hoosier patients need your help.

The COVID-19 Antibody Test (CAT) will be performed free on all donations, and results will be available to donors in two weeks. Please note:
  • Donors must wear a mask and bring photo ID. Remember to eat and hydrate before your appointment.
  • Versiti will enforce social distancing, increased sanitation procedures and pre-screening of all donors.
  • Appointments highly recommended, but walk-ins wil be accepted, time permitting.
  • For donation and eligibility questions, email kpierce@versiti.org.Sign up today!
DASHBOARD DINER FOOD TRUCK COMING THURSDAY
Missed last week’s food truck at the Clubhouse? You can redeem yourself Thursday, November 12, from 5-8 p.m. On the schedule: Edward’s Dashboard Diner (Facebook). A Southside landmark, Edwards is known for their huge tenderloins (and more!)

As long as the good weather holds out, we’ll keep inviting food trucks. Watch the blog's Events link for updates or changes. As always, please observe CDC guidelines on social distancing and mask use, and use caution entering/exiting the Clubhouse parking lot. Thank you!
