Board May update: Pool opening, pool fobs, dues update, Board election, tennis court repairs, neighborhood garage sale

Memorial Day is the traditional unofficial start of summer — and that means a lot of upcoming activities in Eagle Nest! A quick rundown of what to expect:

Pool opening:
The good news? The Pool will be open daily noon to 8 p.m., starting Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Popsicles and adult beverages will be available for kids and adults, respectively, that first day. The forecast looks rainy, so watch our Facebook page for closure updates. Also, please familiarize yourself with our Pool rules here. Questions? Contact new Co-Pool Managers Ken Burns (daily operations and facility maintenance) or Andrew Taylor (administration and Pool fobs). The bad news? Our heater is on the fritz, so the water will be chilly. Our team is seeking bids for a replacement unit, but it may take several weeks before we figure out next steps. Pray for warmer weather soon!

Pool fobs: All residents must have an active pool fob to access the Pool. If you still have your fob from last year and your dues are paid (and cleared our bank), your fob should work on Monday. After that, dues payments will be processed in the order they were received and associated fobs activated in the following days. We realize that’s an inconvenience, but invoices were mailed in February and we are not positioned to handle a crush of last-minute payments in real-time. Don’t have a fob or lost it? Contact Andrew Taylor at andrewtaylor574@gmail.com.

Annual dues due by May 31:
We know times are tough for some, so if you haven’t paid your dues yet, please contact Bookkeeper/Admin Chris’e Van Meter at enpoa_sec@att.net to make payment arrangements (late fees will still apply). After June 1, progressively hefty late fees apply throughout June. On July 1, all unpaid lots will be turned over to collections. We hope it doesn’t come to that, of course. Please make your check payable to ENPOA and drop in our secure Clubhouse mailbox or mail it postmarked by June 30. As of mid-month, about 80% of lot owners have paid. Thank you!

Tennis court repairs:
Great news! After nearly two years of chasing resurfacing contractors for affordable bids, we’ve scheduled repairs to the cracks in our tennis/pickleball courts the first week of June. As you can imagine, a total tear out and replacement is way too costly, so once again we’re focused on spot repairs to make the surfaces playable and safer. Once the work is done, watch the blog in the following weeks for information about a pickleball club and possibly a first-ever neighborhood tournament!

Neighborhood Garage Sale:
Per tradition, our annual Neighborhood Garage Sale is set for the first weekend of June, June 5-7. Friday is typically a “preview” sale day, with full sale days Saturday and Sunday. Hours are at lot owners’ discretion, but we typically support 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are welcome to put signs in yards, of course, but please refrain from taping signs to our street signs and streetlights. And please, no signs in our entrance medians – those spaces are reserved for Board signage. Finally, please use caution as you drive through Eagle Nest, as we likely will draw a lot of non-resident traffic.

Lot improvements:
It’s that time of year when residents start installing fences and sheds, changing exterior paint colors, replacing driveways, and more. And that’s great. The Board encourages homeowners to maintain and improve their lots. Just be sure you submit a request and obtain Board approval before you begin work, per our neighborhood covenants. Such requests are rarely rejected; the Board simply needs to ensure projects fit with the aesthetics of the neighborhood and don’t infringe on other neighbors’ rights. The review process is quick and easy. Click here for more details on our blog.

Dog owners, do your doo-ty:
The Board reminds our dog owners to be good neighbors and clean up after your pet. Did you know it’s a fineable offense if you don’t? In Indianapolis, leaving dog poop in someone else’s yard without their permission can result in a $25 fine, according to Indianapolis statute Article II, Sec. 531-203. And in today’s world of security cameras and cell phone pictures, you never know who’s watching. Most Eagle Nest residents are responsible, conscientious pet owners, and we thank you for doing the right thing. But if you see a neighbor who fails (or fakes) to clean up after their pet, offer them a bag and remind them it’s their doo-ty to do the right thing.

Annual Meeting and Board Election:
As previously announced on the blog, the Annual Meeting and Board Election is 6:30 p.m. June 25 at the Clubhouse. All residents in good standing are welcome to attend. At the conclusion of the meeting, an election will be conducted for four expiring Board seats held by Treasurer Kim Isaak, Member Director Brian Schneider, President Scott Thien and Vice President Jason Van Meter. No other candidates have come forward yet, but if you’re interested simply send your name, a short bio and a “campaign platform” to scottthien@comcast.net for posting on the blog and inclusion in the election ballot letter going out next month. Ballots will be mailed to all residents in early June.

Questions? As always, feel free to contact any Board member. Have a great holiday weekend!

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
