Board June update: Annual Meeting and Board Election on June 25, dues and pool update, house demolition, tennis court repairs and more
As previously announced on our blog and Facebook page, the Annual Meeting and Board election is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at our Clubhouse. All residents in good standing (whose annual dues are paid) are welcome to attend.
The meeting will begin with regular business, officer and committee reports, then close with new business and a tally of election ballots. Ballots (including write-in candidates) will be accepted until 6:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse mailbox (8075 Teel Way), or residents can deliver them in-person while attending the meeting.

Other neighborhood news …
Dues update: Thank you to all the residents who paid their dues on time. We want to keep the street lights on, the pool maintained, the common grounds mowed, and so on, and we can't do it without your support. We know times are tough for some, though, which is why we mail invoices in February to give everyone plenty of advance notice to plan accordingly. As of June 14, eight lot owners were unpaid, resulting in additional late fees. If you haven’t paid your dues, please do so to avoid additional charges (noted on your invoice) and referral to collections on July 1.

Fire hydrant issue: A neighbor let us know about a leaking fire hydrant in the 7900 block of Tanager Lane, and we reported the issue to Citizens Energy Group, where a dispatcher said it would be addressed. If you notice hydrant issues, please notify Citizens immediately. And if you notice a dark or damaged street light, please reported it to AES at 317-261-8111 or online here. Thank you for helping keep our neighborhood safe!
House demolition: If you drive by the 7800 block of Tanager Lane, you might notice a house is missing. On June 17, four months after the Dixon family lost their home in an early morning fire, the burned remains were torn down by demolition crews. The Dixons told the Board they plan to rebuild on the site – a single-story ranch-style home – possibly finishing by the end of the year. As work begins, please use caution as you drive, walk or bike near the area, as construction trucks and related equipment will be busy there in the months ahead.
Pool update: First, the good news: We opened on time for the Memorial Day holiday, are fully staffed for daily operating hours, and hired two co-managers to stay on top of our aging facility. If you see Pool Facility Manager Ken Burns or Pool Administration Manager Andrew Taylor (both Eagle Nest residents), be sure to say hello and share your thoughts. If you never received (or worse, lost) your pool fob, contact Andrew to get squared away.
The bad news: Unfortunately, our main pool heater has failed and needs replacement, so the Board is reviewing estimates to see which best fits our needs. No timeline yet on when replacement will take place. In addition, the baby wading pool was closed after failing a spot chemical test by the Marion County Health Department. We have addressed the chemicals and other required issues and are waiting on the county to return to retest and authorize reopening. We apologize for the inconvenience, but as we’ve shared many times our overall facility needs an extensive – and expensive – retrofit to ensure reliable service in the years ahead. We’re still saving for that, so in the meantime please be patient with our occasional operational disruptions.
Pool retaining wall: More bad news, in that the retaining wall on the northwest side of the pool is sagging and breaking apart. We have begun looking for vendors to assess the structural integrity and handle repairs. If you can recommend a company, please contact Pool Facility Manager Ken Burns or Board President Scott Thien. In the meantime, parents, please keep your children away from the area along the creek, which we will mark off with warning tape. Previously installed signs warn common ground users to stay off the wall.
Potholes: We've been diligently submitting repair requests to the Mayor's Action Center, and in the last pass through the neighborhood a few weeks ago, the Department of Public Works patched more than 60, but more keep cropping up. City-County Councilor Nick Roberts has said he's pushing a plan to completely resurface Tanager Lane, which needs help in numerous places. We'll keep you updated on that. In the meantime, it helps to report potholes at the Mayor’s Action Center through the Request Indy page at: https://www.indy.gov/activity/request-indy
Tennis court repairs: Work on resurfacing the tennis courts started earlier this month, including the removal of a broken wooden practice serving wall in a corner of the facility. Our repair contractor has to apply another protective top coat, then will repaint and restripe the courts soon (weather permitting, of course). After that, we’re hoping to have a re-opening party and possibly a pickleball tournament. If you’re interested in helping with that, please contact Social Committee Co-chairs Marcella Kates and Sarah Craney.
Your neighborhood Board volunteers are working hard to maintain Eagle Nest’s facilities, advocate for residents with the city and preserve home values. Want to help? Please let us know your concerns and any interest you have in volunteering around the neighborhood by contacting any Board member – or tell us in person at the June 25 Annual Meeting!
On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
