Area car break-ins a reminder to take protective steps, keep vehicles locked
Several area neighborhoods including Eagle Nest, Lantern Hills, Castleton Farms, Yorkshire and areas around Fall Creek and Lantern have reported a rash of early morning vehicle break-ins and garage intrusions in the past few weeks, according to social media. Cars parked in the street or in cul-de-sacs were broken into, and in at least two instances garage door openers and other items in clear view were taken, resulting in open garage doors overnight. Luckily, no home invasions were reported.
Some of the affected residents have provided police with home surveillance video and photos, and detectives are actively investigating with the material they have collected. Anyone with any information about vehicle break-ins is asked to contact the following IMPD detectives:
david.yancey@indy.gov
tiffany.woods@indy.gov
The Eagle Next Board reminds residents to ensure vehicles are locked if parked outside, and to keep garage door openers, loose change, book/gym bags, small electronics, etc., out of plain view to reduce the temptation of theft. Installing motion-sensitive security lights and home and vehicle security systems are other preventative measures.
The Board also encourages residents to be active in our Crime Watch group, which has found growing interest and support thanks to our quarterly meetings featuring guest speakers in personal safety and anti-crime measures. Contact Crime Watch chief Carolyn Goldenetz at goldenetz@gmail.com to volunteer or join the next event.
Most importantly, if you see something suspicious don't hesitate -- call 911 immediately. As we know, crime knows no boundaries. The Board can't control those who wander into our neighborhood, of course, but residents can take steps to minimize property loss (or worse) and help keep our development safe and trouble free.
