Board Update: Watch a neighborhood drone flyover, November food truck schedule, essay contest deadline extended
Hello Eagle Nest residents,
Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of November 2:
DRONE FLYOVER CAPTURES BIRD’S EYE VIEW OF COMMON GROUNDS
Looking for a stress reliever, a break from the COVID-19 confinement? Check out this bird’s eye video view of our Clubhouse and sports courts, courtesy of Tanager Court resident John Strauss. A former journalist, college instructor and public television producer, Strauss is an FAA-licensed drone operator who enjoys shooting nature scenes. At the request of the Board, he recently captured our common grounds with his half-pound drone. CLICK HERE to watch the flyover.
MORE FOOD TRUCKS COMING IN NOVEMBER
You spoke, and we listened! Based on feedback from a recent email survey, residents said they wanted our weekly food trucks to continue. So, here’s our lineup for November (and we’re working on more to carry December):
GO FUND ME HOUSE FIRE CAMPAIGN RAISES $1,640
Thanks to everyone who supported our Go Fund Me campaign to help Sheila and Richard Jackson, whose house on Sandpiper Court burned this summer. Your generosity raised an astounding $1,640 to help them cover daily living expenses.
The home has been sold to Total Restoration of Indianapolis and will be occupied by the company owner’s daughter and her husband. The rebuilding process has begun, with target completion expected in early 2021. We’re sad to see the Jacksons go, of course, but excited to welcome new neighbors to the Eagle Nest family.
EAGLE NEST ESSAY CONTEST DEADLINE EXTENDED
We have received some great entries for our “Why I Love Eagle Nest Essay Contest,” but we know these are distracting times so the deadline has been extended to November 7. The stakes: a $50 gift card, plus bragging rights you nailed the character of our great neighborhood. (We’ll have second and third place prizes, too.) Please email your essay (200 words or less) to scottthien@comcast.net. We’ll publish the winning essays on our blog and Facebook page so neighbors can share your passion. Good luck!
In other news:
DPW LEAF PICKUPS BEGIN NEXT WEEK: Changing tree colors and cooler temps -- there’s no doubt fall is here. And in a mature, established neighborhood like ours that means a lot of falling leaves. Good news -- DPW’s dedicated leaf pickups begin next Tuesday, Nov. 10, through Tuesday, Dec. 1. More information: indy.gov/activity/leaf-collection-season.
SIGNAGE POLICY REMINDER: After this week’s election, a reminder that residents have five days to display candidate signs before they must be removed, per our Signage Policy (and Indiana Code). Check the blog link for more information about permitted signs, display duration and rules for realtors.

You spoke, and we listened! Based on feedback from a recent email survey, residents said they wanted our weekly food trucks to continue. So, here’s our lineup for November (and we’re working on more to carry December):
- November 5, 5-8 p.m.: Chef Dan's (Facebook, Instagram) NEW! Cajun food, with traditional sides and desserts! Menu in our Facebook event.
- November 12, 5-8 p.m.: Edwards Dashboard Diner (Facebook). A Southside landmark, Edwards is known for their huge tenderloins (and more!)
- November 17, 5-8 p.m.: ChefTLC (Facebook, Instagram). Soul-infused menu from a food truck favorite. And they are bringing apple dumplings!
- Thanksgiving week: No food trucks. Our vendors deserve a break with their families!
Keep an eye on the blog Events link for any additions or changes. As always, please observe CDC guidelines on social distancing and mask use, and be careful entering and leaving the Clubhouse parking lot. Thank you!
