Board Update: Blood drive on Monday, Cookies with Santa canceled, next food truck, leaf pickup reminder

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of November 23:

BLOOD DRIVE ON MONDAY: SAVE YOUR SPOT, SAVE A LIFE

A reminder that Monday, Nov. 23, Eagle Nest is partnering with Versiti to host a blood drive from 2-7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Versiti, formerly the Indiana Blood Center, is facing a critical supply shortage during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, and our donations go directly to help trauma and cancer patients, many at Community Hospital North. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER YOUR SPOT

Video: Click here for a tour of the donation bus at the Clubhouse.

The COVID-19 Antibody Test (CAT) will be performed free on all donations, and results will be available to donors in a few weeks. Please note:
  • Donors must wear a mask and bring photo ID. Remember to eat and hydrate before your appointment.
  • Versiti will enforce social distancing, increased sanitation procedures and pre-screening of all donors.
  • Appointments highly recommended, but walk-ins available time permitting.
  • For donation and eligibility questions, email kpierce@versiti.org
This is a great opportunity for Eagle Nest to help the local community and save lives! Thanks to all who have signed up so far. Please share the registration link with your neighbors and friends so they help, too!

NEXT FOOD TRUCK ON DECEMBER 2 – AND IT’S CAJUN!

Our food truck partners take a well-deserved break this Thanksgiving week, but our schedule resumes with a new favorite on Wednesday, Dec. 2: Chef Dan’s Cajun food truck! You don’t want to miss this menu:
  • Po’Boys: alligator, Andouille Sausage, catfish, crawfish, shrimp
  • Sandwiches: fried pork chop, Southern fried chicken
  • Dinner plates (comes with two sides): Cajun seafood, catfish, catfish and shrimp, fried chicken, chicken and sausage jambalaya, Cajun chicken pasta, perch, fried pork chop, red beans and rice, jumbo shrimp.
  • Sides: mac and cheese, coleslaw, collard greens, fresh sauteed green beans, jambalaya, red beans and rice Cajun fries, yams
  • Desserts: banana pudding, bread pudding.
As always, please observe CDC guidelines on social distancing and mask use, and use caution entering and exiting the Clubhouse parking lot. Be sure to watch the blog Events link for more upcoming food vendor events.

COOKIES WITH SANTA CANCELED ON DECEMBER 13

Out of an abundance of caution amid COVID-19 concerns, the Board has canceled the Cookies with Santa event on December 13 at the Clubhouse. We know this is disappointing for many families looking to celebrate the holidays with Santa, but bringing together a crowd of strangers – even neighbors – isn’t responsible during this time. But the spirit of the season isn’t all lost: Our annual Holiday Lights Decorating Contest is still on. The Board will be judging decorated homes the evening of December 7, so get your decorations set up and lit up now! You could win a gift card!

In other news:

LEAF PICKUP ENDS DECEMBER 1:
Only two collection weeks left before the city ends free pickup of bagged leaves. Reminders: 40 bags max each Tuesday; bags must be out by 7 a.m. and away from your trash cart; and plastic bags recommended, but paper is accepted. The pickup program ends December 1. More information: indy.gov/activity/leaf-collection-season. Also, the Board reminds residents that open burning of leaves is illegal in Marion County and carries fines up to $2,500 for each offense. If you witness neighbors burning leaves, call 911 and file a non-emergency report or the Mayor’s Action Center at (317) 327-4622.
