The Pool is ready for swimmers again -- just in time for the weekend heat

Fellow residents,

After a four-day closure to correct a chemical imbalance, the Eagle Nest Pool has reopened and is back in business for the rest of the summer swim season! That's welcome news, too, given temperatures are expected to hit the 90s this weekend.

We understand the closing may have been inconvenient for some, but balancing chlorine and stabilizer and other chemicals for a 200,000-gallon, 40-year-old facility such as ours can be a little tricky, especially when you have aging filtering systems and piping. And when the Marion County Health Department says it's time to close and stabilize the water, well, you don't have a choice.

Sure, we could have spent a day dumping more chemicals into the water in hopes things would rebalance, but there was no guarantee that would have worked. And that would have meant an even longer closure, so we decided to drain the facility -- one of the largest, private neighborhood pools in the city, by the way -- and start from scratch. That took some time.

A shoutout and special thanks goes to Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her staff for getting us back up and running again, and staying on top of the Health Department to test our facility the moment we were refilled and ready to go. Susan worked all hours for several days to drain, clean, refill and vacuum the facility, so please be sure to say thank you the next time you see her and her team.

For those who might feel cheated out of a week of access (one or two residents even took to social media suggesting a dues refund), keep in mind Eagle Nest routinely stays open several weeks after Labor Day, the traditional close for most public and private pools. We also opened on time Memorial Day weekend, and our pool is fully staffed with certified life guards seven days a week. Not all area neighborhood pools can say that. Just saying.

As always, the Board welcomes your suggestions/constructive criticism/compliments. You can find our contact information under the Contacts tab on the right side of the blog home page. A copy of our Pool rules is available under the Pool tab, too.

Thanks for your patience and understanding while we worked through this temporary maintenance issue. Enjoy the Pool (and don't forget your Pool tags!).

Scott Thien
Eagle Nest President
