Board Update: Santa drive-thru, Holiday Lights Contest, reporting dark streetlights, covenants update

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

We hope everyone’s holiday season is off to a great start. Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of December 6:

SANTA IS COMING TO EAGLE NEST ON DECEMBER 19!
We’re excited to announce that Santa and his elves are coming back to Eagle Nest this holiday season! That’s right – get the kids ready for a drive-by wave, socially distanced photo op and candy toss on Sunday, Dec. 19. Santa will start his journey through the neighborhood at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the 82nd Street entrance and wind his way south along Teel Way, hitting every court and side street along the way.

Want to ensure Santa stops at your house? Send an email to Santa’s helper at scottthien@comcast.net by noon December 18, and we’ll add you to the visit list! (Thanks to residents Tom and Cindy Corbett, Lindsey Dix Holmes and Jack O’Tain, and Board member Helen Galvin for organizing this fun event!) Happy holidays!

P.S.: Starting December 24, track Santa's trip around the world on NORAD’s website.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS CONTEST JUDGING ON DECEMBER 19

The holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time for the annual Eagle Nest Holiday Lights Contest. Want in? The rules are simple: The most festive lot wins! Simply have your exterior lights on and lot decorations on display by 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 (the same day as our neighborhood Santa drive-thru), so our panel of judges can pick a winner. First place earns a $50 gift card, with prizes for second and third place, too. We’ll post the winners on the blog and Facebook, so stay tuned. Happy holidays, everyone!

HELP EAGLE NEST STOCK THE IMPD SUBSTATION
Earlier this year, IMPD officially opened a substation in Shadeland Plaza to serve as a staging site for officers working to keep our North District area safe. The surrounding business community and homeowners have been donating drinks and munchies to help keep the station stocked for officers. To support those who help keep our neighborhood safe, the Board is asking residents to donate items to the cause.

Anything is fair game, so the next time you’re at the store please pick up an extra non-perishable food item or two, as well as disinfectant wipes and cleaning supplies. No donation is too big or too small. Frequently requested items include:
·       Drinks like Gatorade, Powerade, soft drinks, teas
·       Kirkland Italian mineral water (specifically requested!)
·       Frozen items (chicken pita melts, Uncrustables, taquitos, breakfast sandwiches, individual quiche, etc.)
·       Shelf-stable microwaveable meals
·       Frito Lay variety pack chips, energy bars, crackers

To donate an item, please email Board Vice President Jason Van Meter at jpvanmeter@sbcglobal.net to coordinate pickup. You also can contact your neighbors, church, scouting or school groups to help with this worthy effort!

CONTROLLING DOCUMENTS UPDATE COMING IN 2022
The purpose and function of the Eagle Nest Property Owners Association is to preserve and protect the rights of residents, the Association’s amenities, and to enforce our controlling documents. The latter, however, haven’t seen a meaningful, comprehensive update since they were written in the early 1970s. That’s why the Board has engaged the Association’s law firm to help revise our covenants and bring them current for the 21st century. Some passages will require a vote by residents, so please be on the lookout for more information coming in early 2022. Questions/suggested changes? Contact Board President scottthien@comcast.net.

HOW TO GET DARK STREET LIGHTS FIXED: IT’S EASY!
If you spot a dark streetlight in our neighborhood, the Board would appreciate your help in reporting it to IPL for repair. It’s easy to do, too:
Click this IPL link and fill out the short form with the address closest to the light pole. You will need to include the pole tag number, found at the top near the lighting element. You can use the same link if you spot a damaged or downed pole, as well.

The Board tries to keep an eye out for light problems, but we don’t drive every street every day, so extra eyes are appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping keep our community happy, healthy and safe.

JOIN OUR EMAIL STRING: Our weekly email blast is the fastest, most convenient way to get official neighborhood news and important updates (not Next Door). To join the list, send an email to scottthien@comcast.net.

DIRECTORIES COMING SOON: Due to various unexpected production disruptions, completion of our neighborhood directories is behind schedule. We are working as quickly as possible to finish the booklets and get them delivered to residents. We appreciate your patience.

On behalf of the Board,
ScottThien, President
