Board update: Pool closing Labor Day, annual dog swim, Curb Appeal Awards, live music coming to Clubhouse!

Pool closes Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4
All good things come to and end, as the saying goes, and that includes our 2023 Pool season. Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, is the last day of operation for our facility, with hours from noon to 8 p.m.

It’s been a great summer of swimming, despite a few mechanical and staffing issues, so please be sure to thank Pool Manager Samantha Burns and her lifeguard staff for a job well done. For the most part, our facility was staffed and open daily the entire summer, unlike many of the city’s public pools – including nearby Sahm Park.

We hope to see all our guards back next year, but if you know someone interested in joining the Eagle Nest Pool staff, please contact Samantha. In the meantime, enjoy these last days of swimming!

Third Annual Eagle Nest Dog Swim on Sept. 4
Calling all Eagle Nest dog owners: Bring your furry friend to the Pool at 8:01 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, for our third annual Eagle Nest Dog Swim. Residents are welcome to bring their pets (no aggressive dogs, please) for an hour of doggy paddling (ha); a lifeguard will be on duty for those who want to get in the water with their pets. The baby pool will be open, too, for those hesitant first-timers.

Dog swims aren’t new; pools across the country host them, usually at the end of swimming season when water quality isn’t an issue. Even if you’re not a pet owner, families are welcome to come and watch. And keep that cell phone camera handy to capture the fun!

Tuesday Card/Game Night to start in October
We’ve received a lot of feedback the past few months about resurrecting a card-playing or board game night for residents. Well, you spoke and we listened! Think bingo, euchre, poker, bridge … you name it. We’re tentatively thinking the first Tuesday of every month, possibly more frequently depending on interest, and open to all residents (in good standing) and their non-resident friends.

Eagle Nest used to have a Bridge Club that played regularly for years at the Clubhouse, but interest waned and eventually the group disbanded. But often what is old is new again, and the time is ripe to start anew as we look ahead to fall and winter (boo).

We’re always looking for ways to use the Clubhouse for the benefit of the community as a whole, so if you’re interested in playing or coordinating card or board games, contact Social Chair Brigette Stephens at bestephens4@gmail.com.

2023 Curb Appeal nominations now open
OK, call us biased, but the Board thinks Eagle Nest is the best-looking, best maintained neighborhood on the entire Northeastside. And we’d like to recognize the best of the best by bringing back our Curb Appeal Awards.

The annual contest has been on a temporary hiatus, but we’d like to restart it with residents’ help! Here’s what we’re asking: Email Board President Scott Thien at scottthien@comcast.net with the Eagle Nest address you think deserves to be recognized and why by Sept. 22. The Board will review all nominees and declare first, second and third place gift card winners at the end of September. Better yet, our top lots will own bragging rights for 2023! Send in your nominees today!

Coming in October: Live music at the Clubhouse!
That’s right – come see the Merrps, a rock-blues-country garage band founded by White Dove Court resident Steve Tatum on guitar and White Dove Drive neighbor Ricky Cirillo on drums. This adult-only event will include free beer and munchies, courtesy of the Board, as well as an opportunity to hear great covers of your favorite bands, including Tom Petty, John Mayer, Neil Young and more.

Residents have asked for more adult events, so here you go! This will be a great opportunity to meet neighbors and party at the same time! Watch the blog and Facebook for the date, time and more details in the coming weeks.

Reminder: Submit exterior lot requests for approval
A reminder to residents looking to begin external home improvements to request approval by the Board before work begins. This includes installing a shed, fence or even changing the house color, per Section 6A(i) of the Association’s Rules and Restrictions. Few projects are rejected; we just want to ensure changes conform with the neighborhood’s aesthetics and legally binding controlling documents. Click here to learn how to submit a request.

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
