Hague Road closed briefly following IMPD pursuit through Eagle Nest
A police chase through area neighborhoods – including Eagle Nest -- ended in front of Lawrence North High School and resulted in a closure of Hague Road for a time.
The incident began at midday on Tuesday, July 8, when police were dispatched to the scene of an electrical box that had been struck by a car. The vehicle was later found at a nearby hotel, said Joshua Holmes, North District community relations officer for IMPD.
"The male driver was found passed out in the car and fled when approached," Holmes told an Eagle Nest Board member. "After a short pursuit, the damaged vehicle came to a stop and the driver surrendered. He was suspected to be intoxicated and linked to a prior accident."
An ambulance was dispatched and traffic was diverted through Eagle Nest during the incident but the scene was cleared up well before the afternoon commute.
"There was a lengthy chase (slow speed) that went through Castle Cove first," a resident of that neighborhood said in an online post. "Many police cars, an ambulance and fire engine. They ended up in front of LN but not sure how long he /she was tailed before it ended."
"Multiple police cars, some officers with tactical rifles pointed at the stopped vehicle," a Castleton Farms neighbor said.
A Beechler Estates resident said she watched the scene unfold from the library and that the pursued vehicle appeared to be heavily damaged.
IMPD said the driver was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and arrested.
