 Every other week, many residents of Eagle Nest set out big blue recycling containers filled with items that are recycled instead of adding to their garbage waste.  Republic Services has offered this service to our neighborhood for many years.  Every family's goal should be to reduce the amount of trash produced; curbside pick-up is a convenient way to accomplish this. Republic Services recycles everything except styrofoam.  This includes all plastics 1-7, glass, aluminum cans, plastic sacks (including the newspaper bags), all paper, and cardboard that includes food boxes like cereals and cake mixes.  They pick up every other week (on our Monday trash day), and the charge is $19.50 for three months.  They give customers the 96 gallon blue recycling container. Citizens shouldn't have to pay for recycling.  Indianapolis is very behind other communities in not rewarding citizens for recycling, but that will undoubtedly change in the future.  Many...

The Binford Redevelopment and Growth Association (BRAG) is hosting a free anti-crime seminar Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at St. Mathhew's Church, 56th and Binford Blvd. The event is presented by the Multi-Jurisdictional Offender Strategy Team (M.O.S.T.) and will be conducted by Marion County Deputy Prosecutors Annie Martens and Daphne Whitmire. By now, all Eagle Nest residents should have received their 2013 Annual Dues Letter in mail. And there's good news: The amount due has been reduced! Well sort of ... The ENPOA Board of Directors was able to offer a $40 credit to each homeowner, resulting in a total dues amount of $350. That's the lowest dues have been in nearly a decade! This is a one-time credit, however, and cannot be guaranteed in the future, given unforeseen budgetary needs. The regular dues amount of $390 was set by previous ENPOA boards, yet through diligent cost containment and effective management your directors have been able to offer credits the past three years. Please note: Dues are due by May 1. If payment is not received by June 1, ENPOA will turn your account over to our attorney for collection and a late fee and interest will be charged. A residence on Bayview Point was broken into about 11 a.m. (Tuesday, Jan 8). The following details are from a neighbor who witnessed the crime, as provided by the Castle Cove Crime Watch: "A black Dodge Ram 1500 with chrome wheels and trim driven by a man wearing a large heavy coat pulled into the driveway. The passenger, wearing low-slung jeans with a chain, got out of the truck talking on the phone and then went to the front door. After no one answered, he signaled the driver, who put the hood of his coat over his head and got out of the truck. Both men were black and appeared to be in their 30s. They kicked in the front door, and police say they went straight to the master bedroom (common practice, because this is where most residents keep jewelry, cash, credit cards, guns, etc.).    Thank you to everyone in the neighborhood who made our neighborhood more festive with holiday lights!  There were 154 homes in Eagle Nest who decorated their homes with lights and other decorations!   It was terribly difficult for the judges to choose, but the winner was the home of Brian and Brandy Schneider who live at 8331 Mockingbird Lane. The Schneiders received a $25 gift card from Target.  Second place honors went to the Hardie home at 7509 Teel Way.  Third place was the Schwegman home at 7816 Mallard Way; fourth place was the Schafer home at 8231 Osprey Ct.; and fifth place honors goes to the Kendall home at 8340 Heron.      Again thanks to all our residents that helped make our neighborhood look brighter during the holiday season.
