Holiday electronics recycling event Jan. 12

The holidays mean gifts -- and for many that means electronics. That usually also means "out with the old, in with the new."

But a new state law prohibits disposal of electronics at the curbside, forcing residents to seek other ways to get rid of their old TVs, computer equipment, stereos, phones, DVD players, etc.

On Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, the City of Indianapolis will partner with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to sponsor the 7th Annual Post Holiday Recycling Event. Drop-off is free.

The following materials are accepted for recycling:
> Live holiday trees: all lights, ornaments and decorations removed
> Electronics: anything with a cord
> Cardboard
> White molded foam packaging

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following sites:
> Broad Ripple Park - Main entrance
> Ellenberger Park - Irvington, pool parking lot
> Krannert Park - 605 S. High School Road
> Garfield Park - Arts Center parking lot
