Annual pool party a success; new pool bathrooms debut; directories coming

The Eagle Nest Board would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to last Sunday's Annual Pool Party at the Clubhouse. The weather wasn't the greatest, but that didn't dampen the spirits of those who turned out for neighborhood camaraderie, kids games, swimming and lots of good food.

Special thanks go out to Clubhouse Manager Kelly Wright, Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her fantastic lifeguard staff and our Social Committee for coordinating everything. It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes effort and planning to pull off an event like this, yet all went down without a hitch.

More than a dozen neighbors contributed side dishes -- ranging from pastas to fruit salads to delicious deserts -- to accompany the 225 pieces of chicken and eight cases of beverages provided by the Board. Nearly everything was gone by the end of the event, which drew about 200 people throughout the afternoon.

New bathrooms debut: Sunday also was the neighborhood's first opportunity to see the newly remodeled pool bathrooms. It was worth the wait, too: a complete overhaul of both the men's and women's facilities, resulting in handicapped-accessible toilet stalls and showers, baby changing stations, lockers, new sinks, improved lighting and ventilation, new flooring and a storage closet for the lifeguard staff. We have a few minor things to finish off (non-slick mats, mirrors and signage), but for the most part the project should be good decades to come.

The goal was to have the commercial-grade bathrooms done by Memorial Day, but a series of unexpected problems delayed that, of course. The problems included unexpected winter flooding from frozen pipes, a broken water heater and decades-old failing sewer lines than needed complete replacement. The project was the first major renovation at the facility since it was built in the 1970s.

Clubhouse makeover: The project also included a remake of the upper level of the Clubhouse, namely new paint throughout, new window shades and wall art, ceiling fans and the installation of a big-screen TV. Watch the blog for updates on upcoming NFL watch parties and food and beer events to capitalize on our new audio-visual capabilities.

Directories finished: Sunday also kicked off distribution of the 2014-15 Eagle Nest directory. More than three dozens residents picked up their copies at the Clubhouse; the remaining directories will hit the mail this week. New to this year's edition are revamped and improved neighborhood maps, updated lot-by-lot information and even a new neighborhood logo.

The Board also wishes to acknowledge and thank resident Brian Schneider for his superb work on the maps, and Secretary/Bookkeeper Chris'e Van Meter for her excellent work to coordinate the production and distribution of the directories.

Final thanks: Lastly, the Board would like to thank all the previous administrations for the fiscal foresight to build a reserve large enough to take on the pool bathroom remodeling project. That, combined with the continued support of residents who consistently pay their dues on time, allowed the project to become a reality. Well done, all!
