Neighborhood Crime Watch reorganizing; volunteers sought

As you may recall, newly elected Board member Carolyn Goldenetz has volunteered to coordinate the resurrection of our Neighborhood Crime Watch, which has risen and fallen over the years.

Luckily, Eagle Nest doesn't experience many of the problems and issues found in surrounding neighborhoods, and that's due largely to our extremely active resident base and homeowners who keep a close eye on each other and our properties.

But crime knows no boundaries, and we occasionally have incidents. With Carolyn's guidance and help from volunteers across the neighborhood, we hope to avoid additional incidents.

Carolyn has called and emailed dozens of residents in all corners of our development, and at this writing 22 potential block captains have been contacted. When we have 75 percent of the positions filled, Carolyn will organize the group's first quarterly meeting (date and time TBA).

Goals of the group include:
  • teaching residents techniques to reduce the risk of being victimized at home and in public
  • hosting Crime Watch meetings so residents can learn how to make their homes more secure and how to properly identify their property.
  • providing a forum for residents to address needs and issues that concern the neighborhood.
  • working with our BRAG Crime Watch North Coordinator, Gerardo Becerra, to visit our Clubhouse to inform residents.
  • providing resources for self-defense instruction
Watch the blog in the weeks ahead for more information about the progress of the Neighborhood Crime Watch. If you want to volunteer, contact Carolyn at goldenetz@gmail.com.
