Board update, re: Annual Meeting election results, July food truck schedule, IMPD substation opens

First off, the Board wishes everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July. We hope everyone can spend time with family this holiday weekend and enjoy our wonderful neighborhood assets, including the pool, sports courts, the little library and playground. Few area communities can match Eagle Nest’s amenities – and that includes the friendliest neighbors around! If you use our community facilities, please respect social distancing guidelines whenever possible, and keep our grounds and facilities clean and free of debris. If you see something out of order, please contact any Board member to report it. Lastly, we know fireworks are a given this weekend, but please be respectful of your neighbors and not celebrate too late. Happy Independence Day!

Other neighborhood news of note:

BOARD ELECTION RESULTS: Thanks to all residents who turned in ballots for the Board of Directors election at the Annual Meeting. All four candidates – Kim Isaak, Brian Schneider, Scott Thien and Jason Van Meter – were unanimously elected to two-year terms expiring in June 2022. There were no write-in candidates. A total of 60 ballots were cast, about 15% of lot owners.

Also, the Board re-elected Scott Thien as President, Jason Van Meter as Vice President and welcomed Kim Isaak back as Treasurer. The Board thanks interim Treasurer Helen Galvin for her help in covering the position’s duties. Helen will remain on the Board and stay active with Crime Watch and pursuing road repairs for our development. The next Board election is June 2021, when three seats will open.

The Board thanks outgoing Board member Alice Miley for her eight years of dedicated service. Alice was a driving force behind our extensive calendar of neighborhood social activities in recent years, an effort that has helped Eagle Nest residents expand friendships and tighten bonds within our community. Alice donated countless hours and limitless energy to spearhead our annual Easter egg hunts, Cookies with Santa, Family Fun Nights, and more, and her guidance and support will be sorely missed. She’s not going anywhere – just looking forward to spending more time with her grandkids. She promised she’ll still volunteer when possible, an offer we gladly accept. If you are interested in leading or volunteering for our Social Committee, please contact Secretary/Bookkeeper Chris’e Van Meter at enpoa_sec@att.net.

FOOD TRUCKS SCHEDULE FOR JULY: Grab your calendar and circle the following dates for our July food trucks! We’ve lined up a fantastic rotation of local favorites and tasty newcomers as a continuing convenience for residents in these crazy COVID-19 times (Full list on the Eagle Nest blog Events page):
  • July 6: 5-8 p.m.: Tijuana Flats ($10 entrees of beef/chicken/bean burritos, tacos, nachos). To-go bottles of margaritas and family-style taco kits also available.
  • July 14, 5-8 p.m.: Johnson's BBQ (pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, classic BBQ sides)
  • July 21, 5-8 p.m.: Johnson's BBQ (They are so good we know you’ll want a repeat visit!)
  • July 28, 5-8 p.m.: Edwards Dashboard Diner (Classic state fair-like menu items without the sweaty crowds)
FAMILY FUN NIGHTS BEGIN JULY 9: Starting July 9, look for Jet’s Pizza’s $5 personal pizzas (sausage, pepperoni or cheese) 5 to 7 p.m. every Thursday night at the Clubhouse. Jet’s is a longtime anchor for our Family Fun Nights, which have included snow cones, cupcakes and kid activities every Thursday through August. The Board is still researching programming that fits with COVID-19 health rules, so watch your email, the blog and Facebook for more details. In the meantime, don’t forget: Jet’s Pizza, 5 to 7 p.m. every Thursday. Get there early, because once they’re gone, they’re gone. (CASH only, please).

IMPD OPENS NEARBY SUBSTATION: Thanks to the North Shadeland Alliance, a new IMPD police substation has opened in the Shadeland Station Shopping Center, at 75th Street and North Shadeland Avenue. The site will provide an increased police presence in our area and help strengthen community ties. Organizers have created a GoFundMe page for donations and supplies to cover operating costs. Check the Eagle Nest blog more information.

FEEDBACK WELCOME: As always, feel free to contact any Board member with comments, suggestions or complaints (hopefully not). We welcome your feedback. All our contact information is on the Eagle Nest blog. Board members are residents of our wonderful community just like you, and we only want the best for our neighborhood. Eagle Nest is true gem – and we are working to keep it that way!

Scott Thien
Eagle Nest Board President
