Board Update: Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, a word about solicitors, swim lessons signup, BBQ food truck Tuesday

Here is what's coming up in Eagle Nest for the week of July 20, 2020:

SIDEWALK CHALK ART CONTEST: Looking for something to keep the kids busy? Want to win free pizza? We have the solution for both! Grab some sidewalk chalk and participate in our summer Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest. Here’s how it works: Text a photo of your more colorful, creative sidewalk art to our judging panel at (317) 384-8052 by 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. Please also include your name and address. We’ll announce the winners on the blog and Facebook. The illustrators are welcome to pose with their creations, too (no names will be posted, just the street name so fellow residents can see the fun during their walks, jogs, etc.). First, second and third place will win a free Jet’s Pizza, available during our weekly Thursday sales at the Clubhouse. Heads-up: Rain is in the forecast next week, so this weekend would be a great time to get creative! Text your photo today!

A WORD (OR TWO) ABOUT SOLICITORS: Now that summer is in full swing, so too is the usual parade of door-to-door solicitors pushing pest control, roof repairs, internet service, you name it. Unfortunately, there’s nothing the Board can do except encourage residents to call police if you witness suspicious activity or feel threatened. Yes, we have “No Soliciting” signs posted at our entrances, but those just signal the preference of the neighborhood. The signs have no legal power. The only way residents can legally protect their property and right to privacy is to display a “No Soliciting” sign in plain view at their front door (or on the mailbox post). The moment a solicitor steps on your property they are trespassing, and residents have the legal right to call police. It doesn’t matter if the solicitor has a permit (There is no such requirement in Marion County.). And it doesn’t matter if their employer assigned them to this neighborhood; residents aren’t obligated to adhere to commercial directives. Solicitors are required by law to observe posted no-trespassing signs on personal property – or else. Click here for tips on how to handle solicitors.

SWIM LESSON SIGNUP REMINDER: Spots are going fast for our free swim lessons at the Pool. Slots are still available for the first session July 20-24; six slots are open in the 9 to 9:30 a.m. class, and a couple in the 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The second session July 27-31 is all but full. Lessons are open to all residents in good standing, ages 3 and older; siblings can be taught together in one slot. All students must have a waiver signed by parents due the first day. Masks not required. Residents looking for private lessons can negotiate fees and hours with guards. Look for the signup sheet in the patio area. Questions? Email Pool Manager Samantha Burns at samanthaburns51@gmail.com.

FOOD TRUCK REMINDERS: Did you miss Johnson's BBQ Shack (right) on Tuesday? You have a second chance – they’re coming back Tuesday, July 21, 5-8 p.m., at the Clubhouse. The Bargersville favorite is serving up their half-pound pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwiches ($7.50) and brisket ($8.50), along with $2 sides of baked mac and cheese or corn casserole. Coke products available, too. Coming July 28: Edwards Diner (Classic state fair-like menu items without the sweaty crowds). And a reminder: Look for Jet’s Pizza every Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Clubhouse. $5 personal pizzas (sausage, pepperoni or cheese). CASH only. Get there early, because once they’re gone, they’re gone.

In other Board news:

CURB APPEAL AWARDS: The Board’s secret panel of judges will be on the hunt for the best-looking properties this month, so get that yard cleaned up and you could win a prize – and bragging rights!
EAGLE NEST DIRECTORY: The Board is putting the finishing touches on the neighborhood Directory, and we hope to have it distributed to residents in the next few weeks.
SOCIAL CALENDAR COMING SOON: The Social Committee has compiled an exciting list of events through next summer. Look for more details in next week’s Board Update.

That's it for this week. As always, feel free to contact any Board member with questions, concerns or suggestions. Have a great weekend!

On behalf of the Board,
