Board Update: A word (or two) about snow removal, IMPD crime meeting on YouTube, “Meet the Neighbors” series and more

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of February 22:

A WORD (OR TWO) ABOUT SNOW REMOVAL

We hope everyone stayed safe during the last week’s back-to-back snowfalls, a challenging two days with accumulations ranging from 7 to 9 inches and unusually cold temperatures. The Board thanks residents for their cooperation in keeping the streets clear so our plowing contractors could do their jobs safely and efficiently. Unfortunately, there were a few homeowners who didn’t comply with our request to move vehicles, and that impeded our snow-removal efforts in areas. Overall, though, things worked as planned.

In case you’re wondering, here’s our approach to plowing:
  • Anything over 3 inches is plowed, depending on forecast.
  • The main thoroughfare of Teel Way is plowed first before any courts.
  • Courts initially receive one plow blade into the cul-de-sac and back out to provide emergency vehicle access, not a complete clearing. This is done so all courts have access to police and fire assistance, should they need it. After the main streets and intersections are addressed plows return to complete the cul-de-sacs.
  • We try to time snow removal with the end of storms to ensure we’re not wasting money with repeated plowing for incremental accumulations.
  • Salt is applied to all intersections and exits, conditions permitting.
We know some of you were frustrated with the plowing effort (i.e. delayed clearing, incomplete streets, plowed in mailboxes, etc.), and the Board worked as quickly as possible to rectify those rare situations. As a whole, though, the entire neighborhood was plowed within 10-12 hours, a reasonable outcome given the amount of snowfall and the complication of vehicle obstructions. Suffice to say our response was quicker than the city, which still had many neighborhoods untouched days later. Questions/concerns? Please email scottthien@comcast.net. In the meantime, let’s hope the snow is behind us and spring is just around the corner!

WE INVITE YOU TO “MEET THE NEIGHBORS”

Do you have an interesting story about Eagle Nest life to share? Know a neighbor who would make an interesting profile? Let us know. Our “Meet the Neighbors” series highlights new and longtime residents to help Eagle Nest folks get to know each other and build a sense of community. (Our first installments featured longtime residents Brett and Maria Farrell and Don and Suzanne Craig – and we’re looking for more because we know our neighborhood is filled with so many interesting people.)

If you would like to tell your story, or nominate a resident, simply email scottthien@comcast.net and we’ll get you in touch with storyteller and Tanager Court resident John Strauss (He’s an interesting guy himself: longtime journalist with gigs at the IndyStar, WTHR, WFYI, WIBC, The Associated Press and Ball State.) He’ll take good care of you, promise. All you need to do is answer a few questions:
  • How long have you lived in Eagle Nest and where did you move from?
  • The kind of work you do or have done.
  • What you do for fun.
  • The things you like best about the neighborhood, and what you appreciate the most about your neighbors.
  • A fun or amusing story about your time in Eagle Nest.
Everyone has a story – and we hope to read yours soon!

POLL: WHO HAS PAID THEIR ANNUAL DUES

Last week’s Constant Contact poll asked, “Have you paid your 2021 annual association dues yet? (The deadline is May 1, by the way) The results: 63 responses – Yes 36.5% (23), No 63.5% (40).

The Board’s take: First off, thanks to all those residents who have done their part and squared up their accounts for the year. Our operating costs are year-round, of course, so it’s extremely helpful from a fiscal and administrative standpoint to balance that association checkbook, so to speak. We know times are tight for some, but it’s important to keep in mind that our annual assessments are one of the best neighborhood bargains around when you consider our pool, clubhouse, sports courts, beautiful common grounds, social activities, contests and awards and much more. In fact, last year an overwhelming majority of residents polled said our dues are a bargain and priced just right. The Board is working hard to keep it that way, too! As a reminder, dues are payable (postmarked) by May 1 by sending to ENPOA, 8075 Teel Way, Indianapolis, IN 46256. Thank you for your prompt attention.
