Board Update: Revised Pool hours, Signage Policy reminder, Board elections, dealing with barking dogs, food truck lineup

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

The Board hopes your summer has been off to a great start. Apologies for the lag in communications – vacations and general neighborhood business have been keeping us busy. But we’re back on track, passing along a few notable updates:

POOL SEASON A SPLASHING SUCCESS; ADJUSTED HOURS IN JULY

If you’ve been to the Pool recently, you know our season is off to a great start. Our guards conducted two “sold out” sessions of free weeklong swimming lessons for little Eagle Nesters, continuing a longtime neighborhood tradition, and the staff has worked hard to keep the facility clean and operational. In addition, residents have dutifully submitted their COVID-19 waivers and kept their pool tags handy during each visit. We thank you for that.

We do want to alert you about slightly adjusted hours of
noon to 6 p.m. for the following days: July 17-18, and July 24. We know this may be an inconvenience, but it’s a temporary shift in operation to accommodate staffing needs. Outside of that, Pool hours are the same: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with the first and last half hour daily reserved for adult swim.

We’re lucky to have such a wonderful neighborhood resource, of course – proof positive our annual dues are a bargain! Many area pools have struggled to stay open because of lifeguard shortages; in fact, Indianapolis only opened nine of its 20 city pools this year, including nearby Sahm Park. Luckily, we secured our staff early and have been operational nearly every day since Memorial Day. Yes!

As always, if you have questions or concerns about the Pool, or are interested in another round of free swimming lessons, please contact Pool Manager Samantha Burns at samantha.burns51@gmail.com.

REMINDER: SIGNAGE POLICY PROHIBITS CONTRACTOR SIGNS

As you may recall, our neighborhood was among many affected by a nasty hail storm on June 18. Sadly, we know some homes and cars were damaged, and as expected, we saw a flood of home improvement contractors swarm our community looking for business.

That has resulted in an increase in prohibited contractor signs popping up in yards around the development, mainly along Teel Way. These signs are not permitted, per the Eagle Nest Signage Policy approved by the Board of Directors on January 31, 2020, and recorded with Marion County on February 23, 2021, as part of the Association's Declarations of Restrictions. Exception: Contractors signs are permitted only on the day of active repairs – generic promotion signs are not.

Unapproved signs or those that fail to meet the standards outlined in the policy will be removed. This includes roofing and home improvement contractor signs.

The Board implemented the policy to protect neighborhood aesthetics, prevent outdated messaging, and prevent yards cluttered with commercial billboards. The policy is not intended to limit free speech or support for nonprofit interests; we simply don’t want to see outdated or damaged signs lingering for months, something neighbors have complained about. The policy gives wide latitude – but it starts with a request. Just snap a photo of the sign and email it with a description (materials, size, duration of display) to RulesRestrictions@att.net. (That also is the email address to submit proposed plans for fences, decks, sheds and other exterior lot improvements.)

Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our Signage Policy and contact the Rules and Restrictions Committee if you have questions at RulesRestrictions@att.net  Thank you.

3 BOARD MEMBERS UNANIMOUSLY RE-ELECTED

Thanks to all the residents who took the time to cast ballots in last month’s annual Board of Directors election. We’re happy to report that members Denise Cayetano, Helen Galvin and Carolyn Goldenetz all were unanimously re-elected to two-year terms on the Board, all expiring in June 2023.

All three have been instrumental in leading various behind-the-scenes neighborhood improvements. For example, Denise helped coordinate the Clubhouse roof and gutter replacements; Helen regularly engages the city to repair our potholes and maintain our street lights; and Carolyn has led the renewal of our Crime Watch efforts (some of you may remember her as a former longtime Clubhouse Manager). They also regularly attend the Board’s monthly meetings; help plan social activities (stay tuned for more on that!) and vote on key neighborhood business.

We appreciate their volunteer service and desire to make Eagle Nest the best it can be! Interested in running for the Board? Four seats will be up for grabs in June 2022. More information about submitting your candidacy or how to nominate a resident will be announced next spring.

PET OWNERS, PLEASE HELP KEEP THE PEACE

Now that nice weather is here, more residents – and their pets – are spending more time outside. That’s great, of course; we all deserve freedom after that past year of COVID-19 confinement. But for some residents, that freedom is a mixed blessing when pets get loose or bark incessantly.

If you are having problems with a resident’s animals, the neighborly thing to do is to discuss your concerns with the resident first. Or leave a courteous anonymous note. Sometimes, people aren’t aware their pets are a nuisance. On the flip side, if you’re a pet owner, please be mindful that your vocal furry friends could be disturbing those working at home (or trying to sleep).

The Board has no pet control powers, of course; we simply want to encourage and promote a peaceful living environment for all residents. But sometimes more support is needed – and that’s where the Mayor’s Action Center (MAC) can help. There are city ordinances that prohibit nuisance animal barking and aggressive animals, as well as mandate feces cleanup. Violations can result in fines ranging from $25 to $500. If you have ongoing problems with nuisance animals, call the MAC at (317) 327-4MAC or report issues at http://maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy/.

OUR SUMMER FOOD TRUCK LINEUP CONTINUES TO BE A SUCCESS!

Based on feedback we have received, residents are literally eating up our regular rotation of local food vendors at the Clubhouse. (Pun intended) Remember, every Tuesday is a food truck, and every Thursday is Jet’s Pizza through September. Our lineup of who and when (all dates on the blog Events page):

Jet’s Pizza: $5 four-piece personal pizzas in sausage, cheese or pepperoni pizzas – hot, boxed and ready to go. Cash only. Get there early because they sell out early!
ChefTLC: The food bus serves up comfort food, all your favorite fried sides and crazy good, made-from-scratch desserts, too. When: first Tuesday every month.
Serendipity: One of the most requested food trucks around, Serendipity brings an eclectic menu of elk burger sliders, chicken tacos, Cuban sandwiches, hand-cut truffle fries and more. When: second Tuesday of every month.
Union Jack: That’s right, the renowned, decades-old Broad Ripple favorite offers pork tenderloins, Bavarian pretzel bread sticks and queso, fish and chips, mac and cheese and more. When: third Tuesday of every month.
Bearded Bagel (formerly Bagel Boss): A wide menu of New York-style steamed bagel sandwiches, all specially crafted and fresh. They also have a new concept truck: Bearded Burgers (and chicken). When: the fourth Tuesday every month.

Hungry yet? See you in the food truck line!

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
