Board Update: 2021 in review, coming in 2022, directories, IMPD donations, parking reminder

A LOOK BACK AT 2021 – AND WHAT’S AHEAD IN 2022

As we usher in 2022, the Board hopes everyone’s new year is off to a happy and healthy start. We also would like to thank all our residents for making Eagle Nest the best neighborhood around in 2021. It was a busy year, to be sure, despite the continued COVID-19 climate, economic uncertainty for many and what seems to be an increasingly complicated way of life.

But that didn’t slow us down from enjoying a busy – and socially distanced and safe – social calendar, including our annual party, another great pool season with swim lessons, food trucks, pizza and snow cone giveaways, our first dog pool swim and first neighborhood collector car show, our quarterly Crime Watch meetings, and another Santa neighborhood drive-thru. And we look forward to more of the same this year!

Nothing is certain, of course, as the health and safety of our residents comes first. But circumstances permitting, we’re looking to bring back our annual Beer Fest (a winter and summer version); our annual Easter egg hunt; more free pizza, more free snow cones, maybe even some live music nights at the pool. We also are looking into planting trees in the 82nd Street median, installing picnic tables near the playground and major renovation work for our pool facility.

Be sure to regularly check our blog Events page for the latest updates. Got ideas or want to volunteer? Contact scottthien@comcast.net and we’ll get you plugged in. Thanks to all our Board members for their helping making all these events possible. And thank you for being the best neighbors around. Happy New Year!

2022 DIRECTORIES HAVE BEEN DELIVERED

By now, all residents should have received their complimentary copy of the 2022 Eagle Nest Directory. The 62-page booklet contains resident-provided contact info, detailed maps of each block, key neighborhood contacts – even thumbnail images of the birds used to name all our streets.

Due to unexpected production issues and a flurry of home sales, some resident information may not be current, so if your lot information needs to be updated for the next edition or you didn’t receive your copy please contact Secretary/Admin Lead Chris’e Van Meter at enpoa_sec@att.net.

Special thanks go to Board member Brian Schneider for his detailed map work, and Chris’e and her family for the personal door-to-door delivery (saving the Association hundreds of dollars in postage!).

RESIDENTS DONATE SUPPLIES FOR IMPD SUBSTATION

Thanks go out to those residents who recently donated supplies to the IMPD substation during the Santa Neighborhood Drive-thru. Eagle Nest has joined area businesses and neighborhoods in supporting the office, located at the Shadeland Station near 75th Street and Shadeland Road. The station serves as a staging spot for officers working to keep our North District area safe, and they welcome drinks and munchies to keep them going.

Anything is fair game, so the next time you’re at the store please pick up an extra non-perishable food item or two, as well as disinfectant wipes and cleaning supplies. No donation is too big or too small. Frequently requested items include:

  • Gatorade, Powerade, soft drinks, teas, bottled water
  • Frozen items (chicken pita melts, breakfast sandwiches, burritos, etc.)
  • Shelf-stable microwaveable meals
  • Frito Lay variety pack chips, energy bars, crackers

To donate, please email Board Vice President Jason Van Meter at jpvanmeter@sbcglobal.net. Contact your neighbors, church friends, scouting or school groups and join this worthy effort now!

A WORD OR TWO ABOUT STREET PARKING

You know it’s coming – that first heavy snow. And when it does, we will need everyone’s cooperation in keeping our streets free of vehicles for safety. In preparation, the Board asks residents to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and clear space in your garages for your vehicles. That way, when that 2022 blizzard hits (hey, this is Indiana – we know it’s bound to happen!) our plowing contractor can do his work quickly, safely and efficiently.

Unfortunately, several residents left their vehicles in the road throughout last winter, resulting in hazardous piles of snow and ice around plowed in vehicles. If snow is in the forecast, please be considerate of your fellow residents: Be safe, move your vehicles off our roadways. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

IN OTHER NEWS …

CHRISTSMAS TREE RECYCLING: Now through January 31, residents can drop off Christmas trees for recycling at Sahm Park (6801 E. 91st Street, in the parking lot near the pool). Note:

  • Trees must be free of ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and all other decorative materials.
  • Trees should be dropped off only at the designated area, and only between dawn and dusk.

The Board kindly asks that you don’t leave your tree at the curb as Republic recycling does not manually pick up trees. If you can stuff it in your trash cart, great, but the city welcomes mulching material so consider the Sahm Park option. Click here for more information.

JOIN OUR EMAIL STRING: Our weekly email blast is the fastest, most convenient way to get official neighborhood news and important updates (not Next Door). To join the list, email scottthien@comcast.net. (Your contact information will not be shared or sold).

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
