Board Update week of May 23: Pool season and tags, Annual meeting, Jet’s Pizza and food trucks, garage sale reminder

Memorial Day is quickly approaching, and that means our Pool opening is a week away! We are targeting noon Monday, May 30, as the first official day of operation. Depending on weather and the all-clear from the Marion County Health Department, we may open a day earlier. Watch our Facebook page and blog for updates on that. In the meantime, following are key Q&As about this year’s Pool season:

Question: What are the opening and closing dates?
Answer: The Pool opens Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day), and closes Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day).

Q: What are the hours of operation?
A: Noon to 6 p.m. daily, with the possibility of longer hours on the weekends if we can hire a couple more guards.

Q: Why are the hours of operation a little shorter this year?
A: Lack of qualified staffing. As communicated to residents by direct email last month, the area talent pool is a little thin, and several of our senior guards have moved on to college or found other employment opportunities. We can’t make anyone work for us, of course, so we’ve been at the mercy of returning guards and those who came to us through referrals.

Q: If a lot owner refers a guard who gets hired, is there a finder’s fee?
A: Yes! The Board is prepared to repay the lot owner’s $425 annual dues for this year as a one-time thank you for helping replenish our guard staff. The hire is contingent on passing the required first aid certification course and an in-person interview. The referred hire must work the entire season, with the annual dues refunded at the close of the season, Labor Day, Sept. 5. To refer a guard, email Board President Scott Thien at scottthien@comcast.net.

Q: What is required for admission?
A: A current pool tag for the 2022 swim season. All lot owners who paid their annual dues on time and are in good standing with the Association will receive tags by mail. All Pool patrons must show a current Pool tag upon request of the lifeguard staff.

Q: Can we operate without lifeguards, like some apartment complexes do?
A: No, according to state law. Our Pool is classified as semi-public, and given its size requires trained staff and certain rescue equipment. Even if guards weren’t required, it simply would not be responsible to sacrifice safety for convenience. At least once in each of the past several years, our guard staff has been called into action to pull a struggling child or teenager from the water – close calls that thankfully had a happy ending. We never want to see the opposite outcome, of course. In that effort, safety first.

Q: When will I get my Pool tags?
A: Pool tags and a copy of Pool rules will be mailed to all residents in good standing – aka dues paid, received, processed and checks cleared – this week. If you paid your dues this week, don’t expect tags right away. We are a small staff, and it takes time to reconcile invoices for 419 lots, especially when everyone pays at the last minute. We work on a first-come, first-served basis. If you enter the Pool without tags, be prepared to show an ID so our guard staff can check our dues list to confirm eligibility to enter. If you’re on the “naughty” list, access will be denied until your account is in good standing.

Q: Where can I find the Pool rules?
A: Click here for updated Pool rules posted on our blog.

Q: Who can I contact with questions/suggestions/complaints?
A: Some key contacts:

Annual Meeting and Board Election on June 21

The Eagle Nest Property Owners Association Annual Meeting is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at the Clubhouse. The meeting will include a variety of neighborhood business and conclude with the Board of Directors election. All residents in good standing are welcome to attend and cast votes.

Five director seats are up for election. Four positions held by Kim Isaak, Brian Schneider, Scott Thien and Jason Van Meter are opening due to expiring terms. All four are seeking re-election. The fifth position is opening due to the early resignation of Director Carolyn Goldenetz for other personal commitments. Write-in candidates are welcome, but all write-ins must be present during the Annual Meeting to accept their nomination.

Director responsibilities include attending monthly Board meetings, voting on key neighborhood business, engaging with residents to resolve issues and coordinating various assigned projects. Each new or re-elected Director will serve a two-year term, a volunteer post expiring June 2024.

Please watch your mailbox for your official ENPOA Board of Directors election ballot. Thank you in advance for your participation and for making Eagle Nest one of the city’s most desired neighborhoods!

Reminder: Neighborhood Garage Sale June 3-4

Empty those attics, storage sheds and basements of unwanted items during our annual Neighborhood Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Directional signage is permitted but please remember to remove your signs after the weekend event concludes. Also, please don’t place signs in the entrance medians, and ensure placement elsewhere does not block sightlines for traffic.

Coming soon: $5 Jet’s Pizzas, food trucks, snow cones and more!

Tasty times are ahead this summer in Eagle Nest! The Board is working to firm up our 2022 schedule for food trucks, $5 Jet’s Pizza specials, snow cones for the kids and more. We hope to release details soon, so keep an eye on the blog and your email for kickoff dates and more details. And if you’re a new resident and want to join our email blast, send your email to
scottthien@comcast.net and we’ll get you added to our string. (Your information will not be shared or sold.)

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
