Board update week of July 11, 2022: Election results, pool updates, new streetlight installed

Board welcomes 2 new members after election
The Board congratulates and welcomes new Directors Brigette Stephens and Susan Millander to the team, both elected during the June Annual Meeting at the Clubhouse.

About Brigette:
Brigette, her husband and their two kids moved to 8238 Warbler Way from Fishers in 2019 because of the homey feel of our development. “There is so much that we love about the neighborhood: our house, the mature trees, the amenities, and also how much neighbors care about neighbors. We lived in our last house for about three years and only knew the name of one neighbor - the Eagle Nest neighbors that we have met are how neighbors should be. Heck, I love it so much that I convinced my parents to move into the neighborhood.”

About Susan: Susan moved to 8104 Teel Way in November 2021 from the Seattle area after more than four decades in the Northwest. Susan grew up in Northwest Indiana, and she relocated to Indianapolis to be closer to relatives around the state. Eagle Nest was an obvious choice to settle in. “What I like most about the neighborhood is the mature trees and the large lots that everyone takes such care in maintaining. It’s beautiful and quiet,” she said.

Both stated their Board goals include building a more friendly neighborhood vibe, making the pool/playground more accessible, providing assistance/resources to those who may not be able to regularly care for their lawns, and overall safety.

All Board members seeking reelection – Kim Isaak, Brian Schneider, Scott Thien, Jason Van Meter – were unanimously reelected, preserving the Board’s dynamic chemistry and valuable institutional knowledge. (Fast fact: Scott and Jason now are the longest-serving President-Vice President tandem in the past 15 years – nearly one-third of our Association’s existence.)

Brigette was a write-in candidate to fill the open spot vacated by longtime resident and former Clubhouse manager Carolyn Goldenetz, and Susan – who was attending the meeting as an interested new resident – was nominated on site by the Board and she accepted the position vacated by longtime resident Denise Cayetano. We thank Carolyn and Denise for their dedicated service to the neighborhood these past few years, and we wish them well as they pursue other endeavors.

Pool updates: Closure follow-up, guard referrals, swim lessons
Recent closures:
We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we worked through our recent closures due to water quality issues. As previously communicated, our aging facility is growing increasingly problematic to maintain, and that means operational disruptions are likely to continue. That said, we are extremely thankful for the hard work of Pool Manager Samantha Burns and our entire lifeguard team for keeping our facility staffed, clean and safe for residents.
Guard referrals: Thanks to Tim and Tanya Harshbarger, Karen Broecker and Damon Clark for referring lifeguards for hire this season. Without their certified referrals, the pool – our most popular and frequently used asset – wouldn’t be open daily and likely would have severely restricted hours. As many know, the labor market remains challenging, and the aquatics space is no exception. We appreciate these residents stepping up on behalf of our community!
Swim lessons: Yes, the longtime Eagle Nest tradition led by our talented guard staff is coming soon. We’re targeting late July or early August for lessons, so watch for signup sheets in a week or so on the window under the Clubhouse deck. All ages welcome, no previous swimming experience required. Lessons will be in the morning before pool opening, and yes – free!

Streetlight coming to Warbler Court

If you’ve ever wondered what your dues are used for other than the pool or snow plowing, head over to Warbler Court. The Board has been working with the City of Indianapolis to install a streetlight in the court – the only one among our 17 cul-de-sacs without one. We’re not sure why that was the case, but it’s been that way for decades. Until now.

A new streetlight may not seem like a big deal, but safety is one of the Board’s top priorities. It’s also the most recent capital improvement project since the playground installation and pool bathrooms remodel in 2014.

The pole has been installed at the curb between 7829 Warbler Court and 8010 Warbler Way, and we expect the lighting element to be operational in the next few weeks. Thanks to our Warbler Court residents for submitting the request, and to Board Streets/Sidewalks Coordinator Helen Galvin for spearheading the months-long dialogue with the city and keeping our request at the front of the processing line. Let there be light (soon)!

If you have suggestions for other capital improvements in the development, please contact any Board member. Residents also are welcome to attend our monthly Board meetings to share ideas. The Board meeting schedule is posted in the Events tab of our blog.

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President
