August is full of food trucks, fun activities at the Clubhouse!

Welcome to August in Eagle Nest! If you’ve been to our blog events page lately, you might have noticed a variety of food trucks and neighborhood activities to kick off the return to school. And if your classroom days are long gone, we have something for you, too.

Check out these great Clubhouse activities lined up by Social Events chair Brigette Stephens:

Aug. 7, noon to 2 p.m.: Annual Eagle Nest Party -- free for all residents! The Board is providing free fried chicken, lemonade and beer, and we’re asking residents to bring their favorite sides, dips and desserts to share. Want to help coordinate dishes? Email bestephens4@gmail.com

Aug. 9, 6-8 p.m.: The Latin Flavor food truck. This local rising star serves up authentic Latin-inspired street tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tacos and more. We’re sure this will be your new favorite! Return stops set for Sept. 13 and Oct. 11.

Aug. 14, noon to 2 p.m.: Kona Ice cups, free to the first 80 kids! Hit the pool, then visit the Kona truck for some shaved ice and their do-it-yourself flavor station. Simply show your pool pass, and you’re good to go. This free offer is first-come, first-served, so don’t wait too late!

Aug. 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Chef TLC food bus. That’s right, the Eagle Nest favorite is coming back! We’re talking Big R burgers, chicken tenders, cheesesteaks, pork tenderloins and the best in fried sides. And don’t forget their homemade dessert! Return stops set for Sept. 6 and Oct. 4.

Aug. 24, 6:30 p.m.: Board meeting (open all all). As always, residents are welcome to sit in, share suggestions and meet the Board as the team discusses ongoing neighborhood issues and plans for the upcoming seasons. We rarely have visitors, so help start an attendance trend!

Aug. 30, 6-8 p.m.: Smokey Blue BBQ food truck. Smokey Blue is well-known across our area for their high-end craft BBQ, pulled pork and chicken with all the sides, including green beans with bacon, mac and cheese, loaded fries and street corn. Return stops set for Sept. 27 and Oct. 25.

The Board hopes everyone’s fall season is off to a great start. October is shaping up to be a busy month in Eagle Nest – read on! 2023 Curb Appeal Awards winners announced! The Board is proud to recognize the following lots as winners of our 2023 Curb Appeal Awards, presented to Eagle Nest owners for their outstanding lot and house maintenance. First place (tied): 8031 Teel Way , above left, (Lot 52, Clayton Napier) and 8111 Warbler Way , above right (Lot 229, Todd and Rokeena Williams).  Both homes underwent extensive exterior renovations in recent years, including new roofing, new siding, new paint, wood repair, landscaping and more (all pre-approved by the Rules and Restrictions Committee, by the way). The owners could have saved considerable money by moving to a newer home in another neighborhood, but they chose to stay and invest in their properties. Board update: Pool closing Labor Day, annual dog swim, Curb Appeal Awards, live music coming to Clubhouse!

Pool closes Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4  All good things come to and end, as the saying goes, and that includes our 2023 Pool season. Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, is the last day of operation for our facility, with hours from noon to 8 p.m. It’s been a great summer of swimming, despite a few mechanical and staffing issues, so please be sure to thank Pool Manager Samantha Burns and her lifeguard staff for a job well done. For the most part, our facility was staffed and open daily the entire summer, unlike many of the city’s public pools – including nearby Sahm Park. We hope to see all our guards back next year, but if you know someone interested in joining the Eagle Nest Pool staff, please contact Samantha. In the meantime, enjoy these last days of swimming! The winners of the 2023 Holiday Lights Contest are ...

Every year, judging for our annual Holiday Lights Contest gets tougher and tougher, and 2023 was no exception. This year’s challenge: sizing up more than 100 homes with lot decorations in a variety of colorful shapes, sizes and configurations, some traditional, some creative, all a colorful sign of season. Our independent judge from out-of-state (a former resident, no less!) struggled with all the choices, but after applying stringent judging criteria and washing it through our patented AI matrix, she came up with the following results: 1ST PLACE: 8250 Warbler Way (Tom and Cindy Corbett) Judge’s comment: "Last year's second-place finisher – and previous five-time winner – reclaims the top spot, though barely as competition was stiff all across the neighborhood.
