UPDATE: Pool open for Memorial Day

UPDATE 10 p.m.: Great news -- the Eagle Nest Pool will be open for use on Memorial Day! Our newly installed pump motor is running perfectly, thanks to the quick action of Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her industry contacts. Residents should find mostly clear water, but pool use might be limited to the shallow end if our lifeguard staff can't see the bottom of the deep end. It all depends on how much storm debris falls in the pool overnight and how quickly our filtration system can recover.

The Board would like to thank all residents for their patience and understanding during this unexpected service delay. A shout-out and thank you also goes out to our Pool staff for scrambling to get our nearly 40-year-old facility up and running so quickly.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pool this summer. All the best to you and your families this Memorial Day. Thanks, too, to all our veterans for their service and sacrifice this holiday.

UPDATE 9 a.m.: Our new pool pump motor has been installed ... all pumps are up and working full blast. We shocked treated the water and vacuumed the entire pool, so things look good for Monday opening and regular use. We'll make the official call tonight, so check the blog after 8 p.m. tonight for the decision by our hardworking Pool staff. Thanks for your patience!

...................................

Eagle Nest residents,

We have some bad news -- the main pump to our pool burned out tonight, forcing the unexpected closure of our facility through the weekend. Monday is questionable, too.

We are making every effort to engage all area pool companies to obtain and install a replacement, but unfortunately the timing of this failure occurred heading into the holiday weekend. As of 10 p.m. tonight, our primary vendor has not yet responded. If you can recommend any pool contacts, please ask them to call Board President Scott Thien at (317) 902-3103.

Even if repairs are completed Saturday, the pool would need at least 24 hours -- possibly longer, depending on how much debris our facility accumulates during this stormy weekend -- to effectively filter and clear the water for safe use. The clock starts the moment our new pump is plugged in.

We understand this will disrupt residents' holiday weekend plans, but unfortunately this mechanical issue could not have been predicted. Oddly enough, our pool vendor was on site yesterday installing an unrelated equipment and found no signs of trouble.

We will update the blog and our Facebook page as more information becomes available. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
