Board Update: A request (and warning) about street parking before snow, IMPD crime meeting, Free Little Library poll results

Hello Eagle Nest residents,

Here’s a look at neighborhood news for the week of February 15:

BE CONSIDERATE, BE SAFE: MOVE VEHICLES BEFORE IT SNOWS

With the potential for heavy snowfall this week, the Board kindly asks all residents keep our streets clear of vehicles so our plowing contractor can do his work quickly, safely and efficiently. Unfortunately, several residents left their vehicles in the road during the last snow, resulting in hazardous piles of snow and ice around plowed in vehicles, many of which haven’t been moved since. (Some have expired plates, too, so we suggest you move them asap or they will be reported to the city for towing.) Areas of concern:

  • 7900 block of Shrike Court
  • 7800 block of Teel Way
  • 8400 block of Sandpiper Court
  • 8300 block of Heron Court
  • 7800 block of Tanager Lane
  • 8000 block of Bittern Lane
Please, be considerate. Move your vehicles into your driveway or garage when snow is forecast, no matter how much is expected. For everyone’s safety. Thanks.

WE INVITE YOU TO “MEET THE NEIGHBORS”

If you read the Board Updates the past two weeks you probably noticed some wonderful profiles about our residents. It’s an occasional series to help Eagle Nest folks get to know each other and build a sense of community. And lord knows we all could use a little escape in these trying times, right?

Our first two installments featured long time residents Brett and Maria Farrell and Don and Suzanne Craig – and we’re looking for more because we know our neighborhood is filled with so many interesting people. If you would like to tell your story, or nominate a resident, simply email scottthien@comcast.net and we’ll get you in touch with storyteller and Tanager Court resident John Strauss (He’s an interesting guy himself: longtime journalist with gigs at the IndyStar, WTHR, WFYI, WIBC, The Associated Press and Ball State.) He’ll take good care of you, promise. All you need to do is answer a few questions:
  • How long have you lived in Eagle Nest and where did you move from?
  • The kind of work you do or have done.
  • What you do for fun.
  • The things you like best about the neighborhood, and what you appreciate the most about your neighbors.
  • A fun or amusing story about your time in Eagle Nest.
Everyone has a story – and we hope to read yours soon!

POLL: THE STORY ON THE FREE LITTLE LIBRARY

Last week’s Constant Contact poll asked, “Do you use the Free Little Library on the east side of the Clubhouse?” The results: 29 responses – Yes 75.9% (23), No 24.1% (15).

The Board’s take: Despite the paltry poll returns, the Free Little Library actually is one of neighborhood’s most valuable assets. Since it was dedicated in the summer of 2018, hundreds of readers have visited to borrow and exchange books. We can’t thank longtime resident Annette Donegan enough for her time and vision in coordinating the construction and installation of this wonderful community resource. Moreover, the library has been a valuable – and free – option for families and residents looking for activities close to home during the pandemic. If you haven’t visited the library, you should. There’s a title for everyone, young or old!
