Board Update: Cookies with Santa, Holiday Lights Contest, new Crime Watch page and more!
SOCIAL EVENTS
Calling all Eagle Nest families: Cookies with Santa returns Dec. 8!
That’s right, the jolly old fellow and Mrs. Claus are coming back for our annual Cookies with Santa event, noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at our Clubhouse. This is the perfect opportunity to meet Santa one-on-one, capture that perfect Christmas photo, and decorate cookies with icing, sprinkles and holiday joy! We also will have milk, coffee, water and lemonade to wash everything down.
Kids (and adults!), don’t miss this family-friendly opportunity to share your holiday wish list with Santa and kick off the holiday season right! Nieces, nephews, grandchildren are welcome, too. Want more holiday vibes? Our Social Committee will have a collection box for packaged snacks and desserts (energy bars, chips, cookies, cakes, pies, mixed nuts, etc.) to donate to our nearby IFD Fire Station 17 on E. 75th St. to thank them for their service.

Our Social Committee welcomes help with the Cookies with Santa event, too, so email social co-chairs Sarah Craney and Marcella Kates to get plugged in. We’re also working to coax Santa back for his annual Eagle Nest Holiday Drive-thru and candy toss, so watch the blog and our Facebook page for details on that!

Holiday Lights Contest judging set for Sunday, Dec. 22
The holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time for the annual Eagle Nest Holiday Lights Contest. Want in? The rules are simple: The most festive lot wins! Simply have your exterior lights on and lot decorations on display by 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, so our panel of judges can pick a winner. First place earns a $50 gift card, with prizes for second and third place, too. We’ll post the winners on the blog and Facebook, so stay tuned. Happy holidays, everyone!

Prowlers reported on Teel Way; keep your vehicles locked
In case you didn’t see our posts earlier this month, intruders recently rifled through two cars in the 7800 and 7900 blocks of Teel Way in the overnight hours. Nothing was taken, but the interior contents were strewn about. The incidents serve as a good reminder to keep your vehicles locked and valuables out of sight. To eliminate the temptation for break-ins, the Board recommends parking all vehicles in garages and turning on your outdoor security lights.
LOT MAINTENANCE
Is your mailbox in need of repair?
Is your mailbox leaning or falling apart? If so, the Board recommends immediate repairs. The reason is two-fold: First, with winter quickly approaching the frozen ground makes post replacement challenging. And second, our plowing contractor will not repair or replace substandard or compromised receptacles or posts that fall under the weight of plowed snow.
In the weeks ahead, the Board will survey the neighborhood to identify substandard mailboxes and notify respective lot owners by mail for corrective action.
On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, President

Crime prevention and neighborhood safety are top priorities for the Board, so in that effort we have created a basic Crime Watch page on the blog to provide resources and guidance on a variety of topics. Click here to see the page!
Check out the following topics available on the page now:
- Barking dogs: They’re annoying, especially early in the morning and late at night. Barking for extended periods also is against city ordinance and can bring fines. Learn what you can do.
- Illegal parking: There’s been an increase of illegal parking lately – parking against the flow of traffic – and that’s a real safety concern. Read the city code and how to file a complaint.
- Solicitors: All lot owners have rights to privacy and your property – and that means protection from uninvited solicitors. Read our entry on how to deal with them and when to call police.
