Board Update: Curb Appeal Award winners, inaugural Card Night on Oct. 10, live music Oct. 21 at Clubhouse!

The Board hopes everyone’s fall season is off to a great start. October is shaping up to be a busy month in Eagle Nest – read on!

2023 Curb Appeal Awards winners announced!
The Board is proud to recognize the following lots as winners of our 2023 Curb Appeal Awards, presented to Eagle Nest owners for their outstanding lot and house maintenance.

First place (tied):
8031 Teel Way
, above left, (Lot 52, Clayton Napier) and 8111 Warbler Way, above right (Lot 229, Todd and Rokeena Williams). Both homes underwent extensive exterior renovations in recent years, including new roofing, new siding, new paint, wood repair, landscaping and more (all pre-approved by the Rules and Restrictions Committee, by the way). The owners could have saved considerable money by moving to a newer home in another neighborhood, but they chose to stay and invest in their properties. Clearly, the time and effort paid off, as both lots are shining examples of how to bring out the best in a property. Projects like these help lift everyone’s property values, too! Thank you to the Napier and Williams families for a job well done!

Second place: 8109 Tanager Court
(Lot 280, David and Sharon Reed). In short, the landscaping on this lot has been decades in the making. What started as a nearly treeless, sun-filled yard has turned into a shade-covered oasis of specially planted trees, flower gardens, perennials and shrubs providing color for all seasons. Residents since 1981, the Reeds also have two fountains and a bird bath, and a fig tree in the back yard requiring special winterization so it springs to life each new season and produces a bounty of figs (which they donate to a local high-end restaurant).

Third place: 7701 Teel Way
(Lot 199, Shirley and Richard Kneubuhler). Relatively new residents of Eagle Nest, the Kneubuhlers “work really hard to keep their property in tip-top shape. They have been a great addition to our part of the neighborhood,” and they go beyond their property lines to help out surrounding neighbors whenever needed, said neighbor and former Board member Alice Miley.

Honorable mentions: 8236 Tern Court, 8039 Tanager Lane; and 8134 Bittern Lane.

First place earned a $50 gift card, second place $40, and $25 for third place, but better yet, these homeowners claim Curb Appeal Award bragging rights for 2023! Congrats to all our winners and honorable mentions for helping make Eagle Nest the best-looking, best maintained neighborhood on the entire Northeastside! Click the years to see previous winners: 2020, 2017, 2016.

Inaugural Tuesday Card Night set for Tuesday, Oct. 10
As mentioned earlier this summer, the Board is looking to resurrect a card or board game night for residents. Think bingo, euchre, poker, bridge … you name it on the second Tuesday of every month.

We’re kicking things off Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Clubhouse. We’ll start with a short organizational meeting, discuss facility logistics, then get right to the games. Feel free to bring your friends, even if they aren’t Eagle Nest residents. The more the merrier!

If you’re interested in playing or want to help organize, we encourage you to join us Tuesday to learn more. Questions? Contact Social Chair Brigette Stephens at bestephens4@gmail.com. Be sure the check the blog Events tab for more Clubhouse activities coming soon!

Oct. 21: Live music at the Clubhouse!
That’s right – come see the Merrps, a rock-blues-country garage band founded by White Dove Court resident Steve Tatum on guitar and White Dove Drive neighbor Ricky Cirillo on drums. On Oct. 21 (6-11 p.m.), this adult-only evening event will include free beer and munchies, courtesy of the Board, as well as an opportunity to hear great covers of your favorite bands, including Tom Petty, John Mayer, Neil Young and more.

Residents have asked for more adult events, so here you go! This will be a great opportunity to meet neighbors and party at the same time! Got a song request? Hit the Merrps’ Facebook page and leave a comment. See you Oct. 21!

Pool lost and found items waiting to be claimed
Do any of the items below look familiar? If so and you want them back, please contact Pool Manager Samantha Burns at samanthaburns51@gmail.com by Oct. 15. After that, all items will be donated to Goodwill.

Reminder: Submit exterior lot requests for approval
A reminder that all external home or lot improvements need to be approved by the Board. This includes installing a shed, fence or even changing the house color, per Section 6A(i) of the Association’s Rules and Restrictions. Few projects are rejected; we just want to ensure changes conform with the neighborhood’s aesthetics and our legally binding controlling documents. Click here to learn how to submit a request.

A fall favor: Keep those storm drains clear!
Now that fall is here, neighborhood storm drains are sure to get clogged with leaves, especially on rainy days. Please, for safety’s sake, do your neighbors a solid: Keep those storm drains clear so our roadways and sidewalks don’t flood.

On behalf of the Board,
Scott Thien, Eagle Nest President
