Fellow residents, As you may have noticed during recent months, several homeowners throughout the development have made various improvements to their properties. The Board encourages such efforts, of course, because it helps increase the value of our properties and the overall aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood. The issue, however, and the impetus for this blog post, is to remind residents that the Board must be notified in advance and seek approval for all improvements, regardless of scope, size or cost. It’s not a control freak issue -- we simply live in a neighborhood governed by legally binding documents called the Rules and Restrictions, By-laws and Articles of Incorporation. Every homeowner was provided copies by your realtor or bank as part of your signed deed, making them a contract. You've heard of Octoberfest, right? Well, our neighborhood is putting on the first annual EagleFest, a BYOB evening event (adults only) at 7 p.m. October 24 at the Clubhouse. It's a prequel to our hugely successful Beer Fest in late January, so here's the drill: Bring your own growler or wine bottle filled with your favorite beverage, maybe a side dish to share, a friend or a neighbor, and commence to enjoy all the goodness that is living in Eagle Nest. The ENPOA social committee will provide Jet's Pizza, brownies, and light munchies. What other fun could there be besides beer, pizza and great neighbors? Card games and other games will be available for attendees. So remember: 7 p.m. October 24 at the Clubhouse. Join us for a fun and relaxing fall neighborhood party. See you then! As you may recall, newly elected Board member Carolyn Goldenetz has volunteered to coordinate the resurrection of our Neighborhood Crime Watch, which has risen and fallen over the years. Luckily, Eagle Nest doesn't experience many of the problems and issues found in surrounding neighborhoods, and that's due largely to our extremely active resident base and homeowners who keep a close eye on each other and our properties. But crime knows no boundaries, and we occasionally have incidents. With Carolyn's guidance and help from volunteers across the neighborhood, we hope to avoid additional incidents. Carolyn has called and emailed dozens of residents in all corners of our development, and at this writing 22 potential block captains have been contacted. When we have 75 percent of the positions filled, Carolyn will organize the group's first quarterly meeting (date and time TBA). The following group invite was submitted by Eagle Nest resident Sandi Warren:   Are you looking to meet and to get to know more women in our neighborhood? Are you looking to start a relationship with God? Are you looking to grow in your knowledge and understanding of the Bible? Our study group is for all levels of knowledge, and all are welcome. We will be using James: Mercy Triumphs, by Beth Moore (8 sessions) to help us to facilitate it. Want to know how to best prepare your flower beds, bushes and landscape areas for fall and winter (yes, those cold temps are coming)? Join the Eagle Nest Garden Club, a neighborhood staple since 1978. The purpose of the group is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to exchange experiences, plants and seeds, and to promote neighborhood beautification. In addition to monthly meetings, the group hosts and annual plant auction and voluntarily maintains the landscaping at the 82nd and 75th Street entrances. The club meets the second Monday of every month at the Clubhouse and routinely organizes field trips and features guest speakers at meetings. The group is a member of Central District of the Garden Club of Indiana, Inc., as well as the Central Region National Garden Clubs, Inc. Fellow residents, Now that Labor Day has come and gone and summer is beginning to wind down, it's time to wrap up the 2015 Pool season. Our pool will be open 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the rest of this business week, closing for the season at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. The pool will not be open this weekend. The Board would like to thank Pool Manager Susan Anderson and her entire staff for all their work this season. Sure, there were hiccups, but the major issues were beyond anyone's control, including an unseasonably cool start to the summer, a record rainy season and heavy cleanup work related to storm damage and an algae bloom. We also would like to thank all residents for their patience and support during our temporary mid-season closure to address the latter. The booklet is your official guide to our wonderful neighborhood, complete with street and lot maps, homeowner contact information and handy phone numbers. The directories will be delivered Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon to each resident's mailbox. Please be sure to remove your directory this weekend!
